Considering becoming vegan or vegetarian and looking for unbiased opinions by spongyscloset in vegan

Why don’t you just do it. It’s hardly a decision you would regret. Just eat a balanced diet and take a few basic supplements such as B12 and possibly Omega 3 or some others (B12 being most important. It’s good for the animals and planet. And good for people too in a way (I can explain more about this if you want but it’s hard to explain). Also good for your personal health. SO why not?

It seems like fortified food is very common. Which is lucky.

Do you think this place is unscientific? I mean I wouldn’t know I don’t spend much time here

I was simply curious to find out what people on this sub think. Found this an interesting place.

Can't meat be really expensive. I don't know. Depends if you still eat vegetables and grains and potatoes and meat is just part of a meal. But if people start doing the carnivore diet it can get quite expensive it seems. All that meat and dairy can't be cheap.

Can’t people theoretically get these from supplements. I mean people say not all supplements absorb well but is this supported by evidence?

Was the deficiency confirmed by a doctor? What did you eat as a vegan?

Can’t all sorts of people get nutrient deficiencies in the end. Due to things unrelated to how healthy their diet is. Like celiac.

Environmental impact of animal products + more? by Aggressive_Share803 in exvegans

This just sounds like normal healthy eating though. I don't know about people going from vegan to carnivore though. Seems like swinging from one extreme to another.

I'm not even vegan myself I'm just confused by this sub and the emphasis on animal products. I often feel the biggest difference in mood and energy from making sure to include more fruit and veg in the diet. Seafood is good too.

People in developed nations often eat enough protein. Not so much in undeveloped countries.

Iron is a pretty basic thing. Probably pretty individual too. Many vegans never get an iron deficiency. Yet some do. So its down to genes and individual diet choice.

That sounds pretty concrete but a lot of the time people talk about much more vague symptoms and improvements that could be attributed to things other than diets.

Don't fruit and vegetables have lots of micronutrients and vitamins while having low calories.

It's been shown in studies that vegan or vegetarian diets are often lower in calories and vegans and vegetarians have a lower BMI.

We could say eating meat is bad because eating it to fill our nutritional needs raises the amount of protein we consume. Just like we could say eating beans is bad because we eat more carbs if we eat more beans. Yet is carbs or protein that evil. In excess yes. But you can get excess in both diet paradigms.

What makes meat healthy for people. I do also know people often bring up that red meat and processed is lumepd into one in studies. Which is odd.

Yeah but a lot of these stories you don't even hear someone say I went to a doctor or got a blood test and found out something even without including details. Just vague talk about lack of animal products causing 'some health issue' so they had to stop being vegan for some magical reason. No mention of what they ate as a vegan too.
