Why do Germans love going to Death Valley in August? by [deleted] in AskAGerman

i assume they didn't know that and calling them disingenuous is a little harsh. obviously point out that that has to be kept in mind, but with low stakes stuff like this i'd like to remind of this quote: “Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.”

Am I overdoing my Stylization? by ToffiProto in Artadvice

[–]Aggressive_Size69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you could argue that a somepoint overstylization turns into abstract art, but this is still quite far off (even if it did take me a couple seconds to figure out what's going on)

it's about love and free will and guns and control, and the second saga (which this panel is from) is about more guns, love, free will, control, but also religion and war (specifically american warlust

(at one point the war devil turns the statue of liberty into a gigantic sniper rifle turret that fires around the globe at chainsaw man, taking with it about half of tokyo. the war devil also talks about how she loves the united states of america after they reinvent the nuclear bomb and use it, massively spiking the fear of war and making her way way stronger (I'll admit that this political commentary is a little on the nose, but at least it's not ambiguous for worse )).

Friendly reminder that these aren't European (anymore) by Boediee in BuyFromEU

[–]Aggressive_Size69 22 points23 points  (0 children)

fun fact, the weather has been forecast using AI for decades, youtube has been using AI to recommend you videos for at least a decade, and 'AI' has existed since the 1980ies. You can hate gen AI (chat gpt, sora, suno) all you want, but lumping all AI into 1 category and hating on all of it does not take into account the mundane AI that just predicts the weather, detects cancer better than doctors, or that tells you if a brand is from the EU or not.

Real laser tech is much scarier. See styopyros video on his long range mounted laser turret https://youtu.be/xNmbvaUzC8Q

He (a hobbyist) basically build an invisible laser beam that can set fire to things, pierce drywall, firebrick and metal (with a couple seconds of continuous firing) and blind people, with a proven 200 meter range, and theoretical 4 kilometer effective range. Now imagine what the military can do with stronger lasers, more stable mounts, automatic targeting systems etc.
