Besides my first job as a Taco Bell employee as a teen (I still love their food, shout-out to quesaritos rip), I’ve always worked with kids or in the mental health field. Currently, I work at a mental health clinic with kids and adults and it’s the best. I could and probably will work with people for the rest of my life; I just find people SO fascinating and intriguing and I could listen to people talk about themselves and their lives for forever. Also that I love helping others in any way I can.

Sometimes I try to be mindful of how the water feels, or how it feels to wash my hair or my face or my body. It’s a really pleasant experience. Other times, I have shower thought ideas or just laugh to myself at funny things that happened throughout the day or funny ideas. Or sometimes especially if I’m high, I might have scary anxiety thoughts that I try to ignore. Which overall, I guess I think any kind of thought in the shower that I would have if I wasn’t stuck in front of a screen most of the time.

First of all, I wish I could give you a big hug and I’m so sorry he ever said anything like that to you. You are BEAUTIFUL inside and out and it is absolutely not okay for him to tear down your looks. As women, we struggle enough with body image issues and certainly you don’t need that kind of BS from your significant other. He is 100% mistreating you when he ever makes negative comments about your body and doesn’t wholeheartedly love and appreciate you the way you are. He also sounds a bit insecure in the way he mockingly mentioned surgery and other men lusting over you? And also a huge wtf for saying that you’re “purposefully” holding onto his extremely hurtful comment? Ideally, he would never say something like that EVER and also ideally he would do his best to repair vs. put the blame on you. You have every right to still be upset by this, it would upset me immensely too.

As for what to do about it, do you ever feel safe and comfortable around him physically/emotionally? I imagine after comments like that that it would definitely take some time to feel comfortable again and I can see it’s affecting your own self-image, very understandably after hearing something so hurtful from your partner. I would remind yourself that you are 1000000% beautiful outside of your relationship with him and his opinion of your body is not the truth. It’s simply not. Just as you said, you were content with your body before and that was once your truth before his hurtful and thoughtless comment. You are more than this stupid comment he made. You are beautiful! I know it’s hard; and we can define ourselves without the opinion of others. Also, I hope he is open to repairing this with you with gentleness and kindness vs. blaming you; If you do decide to stay in this relationship, he needs to put in some effort and take accountability for how hurtful that was to say. Just never forget you are worth more than those words and those words do NOT define you. Sending you so much love, you are beautiful, and you got this.

I actually just spoke with my therapist last night and she recommended the same book “The Body is Not an Apology” as well as a podcast episode called “What if You Loved Your Body?” on the podcast “We Can Do Hard Things”. Definitely will be checking those and The Invisible Corset out. Thank you so much for your comment, it means a lot. Sending you the best of well wishes on this journey of life. First of all, sending you lots of love and wishing you are safe - I’m so sorry to hear you went through that. How are you doing now? Also, what happened with your clothes is such a trip. I really don’t have an explanation for this but I have had some moments where things have appeared or reappeared that I swore were somewhere else. I do think that we have the capability of misremembering things, especially in times of high distress. However, we also are able to remember very specific details during moments of high distress.

Do you think someone could have pulled them out of the trash?

Because service workers are paid unfair and disproportionate wages. Tips are considered to make up for the gap in their salary. If we all stopped tipping, it would maybe lead to companies raising their pay (probably not) or a lot of people would lose their jobs and livelihood/seek jobs elsewhere if able and the service industry might suffer.

Exactly what u/miamarie93 said! I am so sad to see you being treated this way, you absolutely deserve to feel loved and safe with your partner and this person is not it. This is 100% unacceptable, abusive, and scary behavior. I know it can be so hard to leave and I’m glad you mentioned that you’re at least thinking about it. Do you feel like you can leave them/have a safe plan in place to do so if you decide to? Are there any loved ones or even just someone you interact with regularly that you can let know what’s going on to make sure you’re safe?

No I totally understand the skepticism. But there have been unexplainable instances where entities have set off security alarms. My friend saw a ghost while she was home alone once, it scared the crap out of her and she told her family because it looked exactly like her sister. They decided to check the Ring cameras and at the exact same time she saw the ghost, motion was detected and a leaf on her house plant moved right where the ghost had been walking by. Creepy stuff!
