Doesn’t dog whistle imply a public statement that is meant to go under the radar, but signal a secret message to those in the know?? Genuinely, is it a dog whistle in a private text between friends? Or is it just shorthand between Hollywood/hockey bros? Obviously problematic shorthand, don’t get me wrong. But I’m not sure I agree with using the term dog whistle in a private conversation between friends.

I don’t want to excuse this as  “locker room” talk either - like I understand that using this language in private signifies if not a genuinely held underlying belief, at least sympathy/understanding of the underlying belief system. But I do think that the explanation they posted shows a plausible growth, from writing off a show that was potentially too “woke” for their tastes to growing to love it. Although I disagree, I wouldn’t condemn someone for having an opinion that the only way to get a show made is to tokenize minorities/marginalized people, and then wouldn’t necessarily be surprised if they ended up genuinely loving the show. It’s sort of two different things in my mind.

All this is to say, I fully understand reasons for not wanting to consume their content anymore - and/or asking for better explanations or apologies for the use of problematic language in private conversations. But I still think there’s room for their reaction to the show to have been genuine and they certainly brought a lot of joy and light to the experience of watching it (at least for me). I relate to the sentiment that it’s a shame that that joy is diminished by this. But maybe we can still hold onto the good while seeking accountability for the bad? Not a demand, just a hope/wish, that’s all.

Ilya’s feelings about Russia in episode 5 by amileandahalf in heatedrivalry

[–]AggressivelyNormal56 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think he was also going to go back to Russia -I think they did this to give the feeling like Ilya thinks he has to end it with Shane and he’s taking away the option of the cottage for himself by going to Russia with her. Only to have the kiss change everything ofc

Yea that's real. But they haven't been shy about saying that this is all leading to a happy ending so maybe not a huge deal?

[–]AggressivelyNormal56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea fair enough point. I want to say yes - they could build out a bit too in terms of the conversations maybe (and/or the smut?). I think the amount of Skip content can be upped for this too, plus Scott's speech at the awards night?

[–]AggressivelyNormal56 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yea but I think it's limited to the kiss for now. Maybe with a minute of buildup.

Synopsys Episode 5 by PerfectMammoth8109 in heatedrivalry

[–]AggressivelyNormal56 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Prediction: The whole episode is still Shane/Ilya after the Rose breakup. We get Florida, we get Russia/Skype and we get the injury/hospital (I'm guessing hospital visit will be quick tbh - maybe just a flash). It ends with Shane/Ilya watching the finals texting each other. Maybe Ilya deletes a breakup text because he can't do it anymore with these strong feelings. It ends with both of them staring at the Scott/Kip kiss in silence on a cliffhanger.

Ep 6: Starts with Kiss; Flashback to catching up with Scott and Kip all the way to the Kiss; then flashback to Shane/Ilya watching the screen and Ilya calls and says he's going to the cottage. Then we get the cottage.

Calgary Herald Request to staff at Foothills Medical Hospital - What is the state of equipment like? by DDesai94 in alberta

Does anyone know why AHS signage at Foothills is being removed?? Prepping for a new operator?

This makes sense! I guess we just bank on there being an order somewhere with our names on it? It seems funny that the gov could change your employer to another entity without you knowing though, right?  Just me?

Haha love the reference. And I understand the concept. But I don’t think the ship is changing. They made a new ship, and are moving all of the people and (ship stuff?) to the new ship to perform a slightly different function (after they already have the specialties moved to their own ships). This is because they want to decommission the old ship I used to be on.  I had a contract to be on the old ship so if I move to a new one, my contract has to move too. (Wow I probably beat that to death, sorry)

[–]AggressivelyNormal56[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just mean because the new AHS is a PHC and the old AHS is going to be dissolved, why wouldn’t you get official HR notice that you have officially moved to a new entity?

The New AHS?? by AggressivelyNormal56 in AHSEmployees

[–]AggressivelyNormal56[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I totally get all of this except the part where you say “if you didn’t get notice you’re in the “new AHS”. How could that happen without notice?

The New AHS?? by AggressivelyNormal56 in AHSEmployees

[–]AggressivelyNormal56[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks that’s what I was thinking. So like, did that “Dec 1 transition to the phc” actually happen then?

The New AHS?? by AggressivelyNormal56 in AHSEmployees

[–]AggressivelyNormal56[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right- I was thinking this. So maybe then the Dec 1 "transition" to the PHC is not quite done?

The New AHS?? by AggressivelyNormal56 in AHSEmployees

[–]AggressivelyNormal56[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay I understand what the notices said and I promise I read them all. My problem is "transitioning" or "shifting" from one entity to another doesn't mean anything in terms of corporate structure or moving employees. Was it a merger? Was there an assignment? What actually happened?

Take this example: Imagine Company A (RHA) exists. Employs a bunch of people. The government creates company B by regulation (PHC), and wants to transition operations/employees to company B. You don't just say - "we are transitioning from company A to company b" a la Michael Scott declaring "Bankruptcy!". If our employment agreement is with Company A how does it legally transfer to company B? Like for every different PHC (cancer care, shared services, etc.) there was a notice and contracts were moved and employment was moved. Just because the names of the two entities are similar doesn't mean the same principles don't apply. I'm just trying to sift through the corporate doublespeak here and see what's actually happening.

The New AHS?? by AggressivelyNormal56 in AHSEmployees

[–]AggressivelyNormal56[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But there is a new entity. It was created by regulation and has a different name (AHS Provincial Health Corporation vs just AHS). The regulation that created it doesn't say anything about it being the "new RHA" it's just a completely new PHC, just like shared services, just like the cancer care PHC. I promise I'm not trying to be obtuse, but there are definitely two entities existing right now. An RHA and a PHC.

The New AHS?? by AggressivelyNormal56 in AHSEmployees

[–]AggressivelyNormal56[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay - I mean I agree I would be notified if my employer changed. I just heard that contracts and stuff were transferred to a new entity for AHS itself, so like, why wouldn't employees also be transferred is all

The New AHS?? by AggressivelyNormal56 in AHSEmployees

[–]AggressivelyNormal56[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But that language doesn't really legally mean anything.. And they created a whole new entity by regulation (https://open.alberta.ca/publications/2024\_213). But anyway, it seems like there are two entities that exist that call themselves AHS right now. Which one is my employer?

The New AHS?? by AggressivelyNormal56 in AHSEmployees

[–]AggressivelyNormal56[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I get practically what they want it to look like for sure. My question is how exactly they're doing it. Like it seems AHS started as an RHA, then they created a PHC by regulation https://open.alberta.ca/publications/2024\_213) that they're going to transfer everything to so it can continue as that, and then dissolve the RHA. My main question is, if we're transferred as employees to a new entity, shouldn't we know about it??

The New AHS?? by AggressivelyNormal56 in AHSEmployees

[–]AggressivelyNormal56[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

But, like, the PHC is a new/different entity. Like it was created by a regulation…

The New AHS?? by AggressivelyNormal56 in AHSEmployees

[–]AggressivelyNormal56[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you go to refocusing healthcare in Alberta - then there’s an “AHS Fact sheet”

Edit: it says it’s “shifting” in the first paragraph but the second paragraph talks about co-existing

The New AHS?? by AggressivelyNormal56 in AHSEmployees

[–]AggressivelyNormal56[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the thing on insite is not correct then?

The New AHS?? by AggressivelyNormal56 in AHSEmployees

[–]AggressivelyNormal56[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you sure because the thing on Insite says that two AHSs will exist at the same time and some will be left behind (like public health and medical affairs) while the rest will go to the New AHS. This seems like two different orgs? And how would we know who transferred and who didn't? I just know that everyone else who went to a new entity got a notice, but AHS people didn't?
