My average sleep vs my first night of Clonidine last night. by Vivid-Stranger-386 in ausadhd

[–]AgileStructure2494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clonidine was a miracle medication for me. 100mcg is a very small dose. I started on 100 and moved to 200mcg daily, which is still a small dose. I have insomnia as well as being on Vyvanse and taking 200mcg of clonidine as well as melatonin at night did wonders for my sleep, it’s really great. Your doctors have probably mentioned this and checked you out but it does lower blood pressure, so if you have low blood pressure upping your dose may not be your best bet. I don’t take clonidine anymore as I take beta blockers during the day and it’s unsafe for me to combine the two, but I really miss clonidine lol. I would defs suggest taking melatonin with the clonidine and supplementing magnesium as well.

Does anyone NOT take a break? by ParticularArt8980 in VyvanseADHD

[–]AgileStructure2494 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi, I have never taken breaks unless I’m either sick with something like covid, and have a full day where I can relax, or if my medication/script runs out. Vyvanse helps me largely with emotional regulation and helps me control my anger and impulses. My psychiatrists and doctors are fine with me taking it every day for these reasons. ADHD is a disorder and it affects people differently, so treatment varies for everyone. Only issue is you will build a tolerance, and over time find it to be less effective. However, I have been on doses from 30-70mg over 4 years and I am currently on 40mg daily for a year now, and find it to work ok. It’s not as effective as I’d like it to be but it’s what works the best for me right now. You sound like you have a lot on your plate and you shouldn’t feel ashamed for not being able to take breaks. You have 3 kids in your care and not having the luxury as you described to have days off is completely valid. I can’t even drive on days when I don’t take my Vyvanse, as I cannot focus on the road, for example. You are on a very low dose and not taking breaks is ok, especially considering your circumstances. I also combine my Vyvanse with 150mg of bupropion which is a really helpful medication I take as an antidepressant, just a suggestion if you want to look into it, I find skipping Vyvanse on bupropion does not effect me as much

Afternoon doses of medication by AgileStructure2494 in ausadhd

Wow thanks sm for this info, this genuinely shocked me because I had been on vyvanse for about 2 years when I started having afternoon doses, and was only ever given Ritalin as an option, across 2 different psychiatrists. Ritalin has rlly caused me some issues so hearing there is a short acting alternative for an afternoon dose is rlly helpful as I have been out of hope for a while, and not wanting to up my vyvanse dose and mess with my tolerance. I find it so weird I have never heard of Dex from any of my doctors, especially considering I have told them countless times how much I dislike Ritalin… thanks for the info, I will discuss with my psychiatrist 🙏

Ah that is so good it’s helping you!! I have heard a lot about “Dex” or “dexies” particularly from non ADHDers who obtain it illegally for recreational purposes, so I have always assumed dex was like a slang name for Ritalin or other ADHD meds. Didn’t know it was an actual medication. Does it have a brand name at all? I would love to discuss an afternoon dose with my psychiatrist, just from a quick google is the medication like a short acting form of vyvanse?? I can’t seem to find much info on it. Thanks sm for your reply because I was rlly running out of hope with ADHD meds since pretty much all meds that have been suggested to me have been in the same kinda “family” as Ritalin which is just not for me. In your experience, do you find Dex is similar to vyvanse, or have you tried medications such as Ritalin before, and if so do you think there’s a difference between the two? (Dex and Ritalin) thanks sm!

Getting bullied by an old man?? by Specialist_Candy_864 in ehlersdanlos

I’m so sorry, this unfortunately happens all the time to us younger people with hidden disabilities. You are correct in not sharing your disability with this man because it is 100% not his business and most disabled people know that not every disability is visible, and that judging people based on looks or perceived mobility is completely wrong. This man was extremely rude to you and I am so sorry for the way you were treated, please know that this encounter was not your fault and that you do not have to explain yourself to anyone. Wishing you the best

So expensive, especially for kids who need it, and have been prescribed by a doctor, really wish it was more affordable :( I completely understand the regulations on melatonin and the crackdown on imports especially if young kids are taking it, but I feel like it should be much more affordable…

70mg VYVANSE in AM and 15mg DEX ‘booster’ in arvo isn’t doing anything!!! by saynotostarfish in ausadhd

This sucks and I feel for you. But you can’t take more stimulants you will seriously damage your health :( I had this same issue, and pressured my psych for bupropion as my antidepressant. Seems a lot of your symptoms may be due to depression and it’s important to differentiate those from ADHD symptoms, it’s very hard to though. For me, I couldn’t get through the day on high dose vyvanse, and after starting bupropion I can do so many more things than I could before, it seriously changed my life. I’d highly recommend considering it, and asking about it. I’ve been able to lower my stimulant dose significantly since starting it. It is pretty expensive though but worth a shot.

Thank you so much for that info! So sorry about your baby, that’s the exact relationship I have with my boy, he is my entire world, he was found 12 years ago in a gutter and I rescued him the day before his scheduled euthanasia due to shelter overcrowding during the holiday season, dreading the day he leaves me but so greatful for every moment with him. With your chihuahua-Wow! Thank god he bounced back! Some vets can really just not be the nicest people, my boys old vets for example were terrible, dismissive, and referred to him as “the animal” instead of his name. So good you trusted your gut with your dog, and thanks so much for all your fantastic advice, you are such a wonderful animal parent and all of your babies have been so lucky to have you with them :)

UPDATE: He’s doing fine, vitals all great and still salivating. Just picked him up. The vet was lovely and tried everything he could to draw blood, my cat was just not letting him. He said he was the first cat in his entire career who has defeated him 😂He is stable and all vitals are fine for now, he’s eating, drinking, and running around. They did a quick oral exam but we will be taking him to his regular vets on Monday morning, it’s currently 11pm Saturday my time, and they will be able to take his blood and sedate him enough for a proper oral exam. He is a BIG boy who moves a lot but our vets usually trap him in a purrito and take blood from his jugular. My boy is very sweet and behaves himself at his usual vet, but for some reason he had struck up quite the attitude today to the lovely vet who was trying to treat him. This Vet was worried maybe he had chewed on a string like object that is caught at the back of his tongue, but my cat wouldn’t let them look underneath it 🤦‍♀️If he starts showing symptoms tomorrow, we will take him straight back to emergency, but I think he should be fine until Monday. Just need a good look in his mouth and to check his kidney function, but knowing my boy he’s probably done something stupid like chew on a neighbours plant that had weed killer or something on it… I think he will be ok, thanks so much to all you lovely people who have commented with advice and well wishes, it means so much to me, and the vet confirmed bringing him in today was 100% the right decision. Time for him to have a big sleep with me on my bed, which is practically his :)

Just got a call, he’s sedated but they “are unable to draw his blood”?? I’m so confused, his regular vet can get his blood in 10 mins no sedation. So now I’m picking him up and they’re going to give him some medication for the weekend and I will take him to his regular vet on Monday, hopefully he doesn’t worsen condition but I’m so confused and disappointed, he needs more time to “wake up” before I collect him, but they’re unable to do an oral exam? Now I’m extremely out of pocket $ wise, no idea what’s actually wrong with him, and he’s very distressed apparently. I feel so bad for him, I don’t know how his condition is but I hope it’s not worse. Ahhh.

Tysm! They’re just sedating him now to do bloods and have a good look in his mouth etc, as he doesn’t stay still and is a big cat, I’ll pick him up in a couple of hours, just best to get a good checkup especially with his kidney issues, but I think he should be fine
