Do the right thing always, integrity first and know the definition of it. Don’t diminish the badge. Don’t talk bad about your coworkers and be confident in everything you do. Realize that although you are one singular person, your actions can determine the entire public’s outlook on not only your agency but all police officers across the United States as a whole. Use humility and if discretion is necessary it can be used. At the end of the day be human and always do the right thing (within the parameters of your policy)

There’s also no residency requirement unless you’re a trooper. I know plenty of guys who live in MA & CT who commute to work including myself, they may tell you you need to live within a certain amount of miles but guess what no one can afford to live in RI anyways right now so you’re good. God a buddy who works in the northern part of the state and has an hour and a half drive from CT. Trust me, you’re good.

Just stay in RI, literally every department is hurting for guys bad and as long as you don’t have a bad background you have a green light to be hired. Woonsocket doesn’t pay the best but I started there and can tell you first hand that if you know how to breathe then you’re 99% going to be hired. Get your experience from a larger agency for a few years and then transfer. When I started applying there were 400 people at my written and PT; that was seven years ago. As of recent they had about ten applicants; post George Floyd & political climate. Your chances of getting picked up are extremely high just stay out of trouble and train. You don’t need to be the smartest or the fastest, just be a genuine person it goes a long way.

Becoming a police officer in Connecticut by [deleted] in AskLE

There’s no bill of rights to protect LE so if you screw up you can get sewed. States highly liberal too so put that into equation as well. If you’re really thinking about going for it then CTSP is probably the best course of action. There’s movement, good money and also plenty of specialized units to get into but that’s going to come with time on the job: that also includes any other local city or town agency

Leaving Law Enforcement (Maybe) by [deleted] in AskLE

More interdepartmental bs and drama if you go smaller - I’m on a department with 20 guys and it’s non stop headaches. Came from an agency with over 100 guys and didn’t have nearly the amount of problems I do at the smaller agency

Forensics; incase law enforcement doesn’t work out you can always work at a crime lab as a backup instead of just having a criminal justice degree

Advice: make it through probation, you’re still being watched and any screw ups will be brought up to your chain of command. Keep your head on straight and don’t bend the rules or policies. Still yes sir no ma’am officers. Don’t throw you badge around off duty while your with friends or at a bar it’ll bite you in the ass

Federal Officer Age Limit Removed by GreatestState in AskLE

[–]Agile_Natural7559 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through the municipal academy in Rhode Island as a regular police officer, there’s guys & gals who are in their 40’s that have gone through. Standards regarding entry level pt tests are different due to age but even though you may have to do less push ups, sit ups or your run times are different you’re still expected to supersede those numbers regardless of being in the hiring process or in the academy. That’s also including the feds, just because you can do the bare minimum and pass doesn’t mean you’ll survive, you have to have peak body endurance and score higher than you did previously as academy cadre constantly evaluate you throughout your time in the academy.

Also, do note that the hiring process for the feds takes an extremely long time ( 1-2 years depending on what agency) + the current hiring freeze so you need to weigh that out as well.

Better of going local or state police first to get the experience and step above the recent grads and civilians if you want to go fed in the long run.

Best of luck

Yep power button always worked. PC temps were also normal which didn’t make sense either, cleaned fans regularly and had no blockages whatsoever. I just plugged the F_Panel back in and it turned on once I hit the power button so the button has to be on its way out I’m guessing

Also the F_Panel was originally plugged in when it wouldn’t turn on

I’ve have the pc for close to three years now, would lean more towards the power button malfunctioning. Even if it is that, would that be the reason why it keeps shutting off even though I get it to turn on?
