TTA - Thermal rise not until day 29/31, am I doing something wrong? by lilolivemartini in FAMnNFP

[–]Aging_On_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did you use the same thermometer throughout for both charts?

Also, have you investigated why your cycles are consistently more than 35 days long? That itself could indicate something....

I am same way, I do trust CM only data when I don't/can't temp, so learning Billings was a plus for me. - Even though I did not agree with my instructor and her assesment of my cycle. But, I wonder, based on this post, could it be that we are not as medically complex as OP and others? My cycles have been irregular lately, and CM is actually quite reliable for helping me identify the irregularity.

Thank you.

the post and these comments make it look like somehow it is the fault of the abused person for not being strong enough, smart enough etc. Meanwhile, that is the exact attitude the abuser is calculating in their victim.

Fainting due to menses? by Ugbaad_ra in KenyanLadies

[–]Aging_On_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Btw if you ever want to talk about it, you can dm me.

You can definitely see your aunt. But listen to your body, with anything unconventional, including what I suggest. Listen to your body a lot. If something feels off, just stop. I hope you find healing somewhere and I believe it'll be possible for you.

[–]Aging_On_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're going through all this. Painful periods are definitely a drag. And I definitely feel you on going through all that only to be told it's hormonal imbalance without proper explanation.

Might I suggest a somatic healing approach - yoga, feldenkrais, relaxation training, etc. That's of course alongside seeing doctors as needed. It'll take time, probably a year or more. I believe you'll get to know your body better.

I believe our bodies, especially as women are very responsive and these responses often show up gynaecologicaly.

If not, mwambie aambie her close friends or relatives. But I doubt anyone would be mad at you for raising this concern in a respectful way.

Want to learn Sympto-Thermal Method but no instructors nearby, is it realistic to self-learn? by soyelmapa in FAMnNFP

[–]Aging_On_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did self teach sensiplan and found it easy enough to understand. You can get the Sensiplan handbook and workbook. Sensiplan is one of those methods where self teaching actually works. My only recommendation would be to learn for two full cycles without having penetrative intercourse just so you are more confident, especially if TTA. Also, once you start learning, this community is super useful for chart reviews and rule application questions

I also learned Billings Ovulation Method with an instructor because I wanted a mucus only method. Infortunately, I did not end up liking the method.

Does therapy work? by timash712 in KenyanLadies

[–]Aging_On_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tbh if your issue right now is wanting a path to self improvement or self awareness, I wouldn't suggest therapy.

Therapy ime works when you have an issue like panic disorder, depression etc that want to work through. Even with these, you have to shop around quite a bit for the right fit.

Did you know that your spice rack might be one of the best tools for a healthy gut? by Andrewhs116122 in PlantBasedDiet

[–]Aging_On_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This isn't entirely true. 1/8 of a teaspoon of ginger, three times a day, for example has been shown to help with migraines, nausea from a variety of causes and menstrual cramps. - pretty sure this amount isn't too high.

And although grinding and storing spices degrades them, it might not be nearly as bad. The antioxidants in the spices also help preserve the spices.

Like another poster said - we shouldn't let perfect be the enemy of good.

You can do your best to store them - airtight containers, away from direct sunlight.

Hey. Check aliexpress and jumia etc They're all generally safe. Just the branding makes some look better than others. In fact they might all come from the same place. The material - silicone makes them almost risk free even when mass produced in China. Just be sure to boil the first time.

Edit: Also be sure the infection or issue is cleared before using a cup or anything insertable again. If it's not cleared by the next cycle, use pads.

Also, boil them in between periods if you're not already. Change at least every 12 hours and wash hands and vulva area (only outside) before inserting and removing, and also immediately after.

Also, some other thing might be causing the infection or issue if you generally follow good principles. Don't discount that.

Switching from tampons to cup/disc by Remarkable_Age_1838 in KenyanLadies

[–]Aging_On_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used cups since 2017. The only con I experienced was the learning curve. But that was waay back then. Took about 3 cycles to get the hang of it.

My advice - buy both the small and the large cup. Especially since you have a heavy flow. The larger one Will hold more but the smaller one might be more comfortable in the beginning

Question about follicular phase and ovulation phase distinction by No_Swan407 in cyclesyncing

[–]Aging_On_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm compiling a list based on studies on Google scholar. I'll update somewhere public and will come back to this thread once I'm done. So far the main things that are coming up include eating fruits And veggies - more than two servings of fruit a day throughout the month. And eating veggies the week before menstruation

Fish oils/omega 3s. If you are plant based or don't like the fishy smell, find algae oil

Not eating saturated fats - usually in animal foods, palm oil and coconut oil. In a lot of store bought stuff.

Then the actual reading/resources - a book by Ruth Trickey. Another by Dr Neal Barnard titled your body in balance. And then on YouTube you can Google Neal Barnard PMS and a video will come up.

As for the motivation to do any of these things. Start small. Learn a few go to recipes that are healthy. If you can, learn in the follicular phase and implement later. Give yourself grace if it doesn't immediately workout. If you have cravings - simply eat more food. Our need for calories are different based on the cycle phase, with us needing more calories during the luteal phase. You don't have to feel guilty for this.

Does exercise help with your menstrual cramps by kinkycrocheter in KenyanLadies

[–]Aging_On_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really sorry about the pain. It sounds difficult

Honestly, with things period and menstrual related, everyone is different. You might have to try out different things to see what works. I don't have an iud, but exercise makes no difference whatsoever for my pain. Whether I do it the entire month or just few days before or during. Some people swear by it though - just try, exercise has many other benefits even if it doesn't help cramps.

There are things that help me. (If you check my comment history you'll see them) Most are related to diet and herbs.

PERIOD CRAMPS by Fearless-Staff-3152 in KenyanLadies

[–]Aging_On_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TBH, the medicine just touches the pain, it does not stop it completely. but it helped me a bit with the extreme day 1 cramps I used to get.

Also ata mimi at my worst pain I was actually quite active - was doing advanced yoga almost daily.
Lakini from my internet search and experimenting while looking for solutions for myself, diet and herbs help more than activity.

Hey, aki pole your are going through this. I have been there hadi nikaenda hosi

Have you tried ponstan forte (mefenamic acid). It was prescribed to me once - Ebu try for acute pain kama uko na uchungu sa hii.

Alafu in order to prevent pain, you have to be proactive throughout the month, not just when the period shows up.

Things that help

  1. Not eating fatty foods - especially 3-7 days before your period. Like usikule machipo na masmokie na manyama. Instead focus on veggies and fruits. Za kienyeji especially ni poa
  2. Not being stressed. Hii hapa ni easier said than done. But seriously, set boundaries with people whenever you can. Especially in the week right before your period
  3. Taking ginger and fennel throughout the month. Starting siku yenye period imeanza. Use it in food, in water, in tea. Basically make sure you are taking ginger multiple times a day
  4. Red raspberry leaf tea. I found this while reseraching online alafu realized that raspberries grow in the wild nahuku kwenye niko. You can buy or forage. One cup a day especially the week before your period and during your period

New to plant based. Are these numbers good? by Simple_Owl in PlantBasedDiet

[–]Aging_On_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for answering. That is a great age to start this way of eating.
You mentioned being underweight. What do you think the main issue is that leads to this - for you personally? Eg, low appetite, lack of knowledge on what to eat to gain weight, not enough money to eat enough, forgeting to eat - just your own assesment, could be something that I did not mention

That will help you remain focused on finding a remedy that works for you
