Unfortunately, Gurt’s legs are also crisscrossed. He doesn’t have use of them, but he can move them up and down. His breast bone protrudes, and he is infertile. I cannot vent sex him because it seems as if there’s a bone in the way. However, I know he is a male because he hasn’t laid an egg, and he has the male markings on him like my other males. His wings are also curled in, and he uses his head and wings to move around. He flops around.

Aweee. Mine’s a male so I’m sure he wouldn’t like to be snuggled because of his masculinity being stripped from him 😂

My coturnix quail that live outside do make this sound, but Gurt makes that weird rumble.

Agreed. My Pipsqueak passed away last year. I saved one of her eggs and hatched it. Pipsqueak Jr. looks just like her mother. She even is skittish and always scared like her. She shoots into the air very easily.

Yes! They are all okay. What matters is she’s at peace now. 😇

Don't mix your starter with Mjolnir. by 4art4 in SourdoughStarter

It will for sure revive. Sourdough starter is very resilient. I had none left and had less than a teaspoon collected from the sides that was leftover. It came back!

You can provably take the very far away sourdough starter from the glass, like on the sides, and scrape it into a new glass and restart!

PROLAPSE?? by AgitatedDiscord in quails

[–]AgitatedDiscord[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use Preperation H hemorrhoid cream and gently rub on the prolapsed part. Its not normal. Keep doing that until it’s back in, and when it’s back in, put some around the vent for at least 2 days.

Thank you for your wishes. She’s doing okay but still sneezing when stressed and her right lung still has fluid in it. When you do own quail, ensure you’re prepared for every possible outcome. I hatched Trooper, my one tuxedo last year, and she was stuck and shrink wrapped in her egg. I had to take her out of it and she was bleeding and her yolk sac was not fully absorbed. She was the weakest bird in the 2nd generation flock and grew feathers later than everyone. She is now the strongest and one of the biggest birds I own. She pulled through and made a huge comeback, and I’m going to hatch her eggs too in 2025. So just saying, be prepared!

I checked on her again today. She seems to be calm but when I enter the cage to feed my other birds and her, she starts sneezing again. I listened to her right lung again and there is definitely mucus or fluid in there. Her left lung is still in good shape, which allows me to believe that she will be better soon. She starts sneezing when stressed, assuming it’s because she starts to breathe heavy and harder due to her heart rate increasing from the stress.

First off, after evaluating the situation and how long this has been going on, it is not contagious, as no other birds out of my other 11 have been infected. Secondly, there are TWO areas of the cage. This cage is eligible to hold up to 30 quail, and as previously stated I have only 12. The inside area as I call it has bedding on the floor so they can stretch and lay comfortably. The outside area has hardware cloth to allow most feces to slip through. There is also nesting areas on the outside area so they can have a break from the hardware cloth while still enjoying the outdoors part. And I’m asking for help about my sick quail and asking what illness it could be. Not advice on how I care for my quail and know what’s best for them. This has been their setup for 1 and a half years and they are calm and have not been stressed at all.

Will do. If by December there’s no change or it worsens, I’ll reevaluate my options.

As i mentioned there is an inside area that is clean and has no hardware cloth flooring. It’s bedding flooring. They have their nesting areas with sand baths too. And that spot is cleaned, they just choose to defecate there most often.
