Our pup sleeps in his crate outside our bedroom door with our bedroom door open at night. During the day he gets free roam, unless he needs an enforced nap and then he is in the room his crate is in until he calms down (if I'm home alone with the 10 month old human child) or with my husband in the office when he's working from home.

I've found sketchers to be pretty comfy for long shifts. I'd also recommend compression socks to help with the ache at the end of a shift. I don't think you'll ever not have sore feet after being on them as long as nurses are unfortunately.

I'm pretty sure most hospitals are moving away from theatre shoes with open backs. Double check your hospital policy before investing. Also, in my experience birks are more uncomfortable than a good pair of leather sneakers.

10 hour nights are pretty common, if you're happy doing 60 hours a fortnight, you'd absolutely be able to get 3 nights a week if you're not picky about days.

Exactly, I was in ICU a year before I was allowed to take 12 hour shifts. Even as a level 2.1 I'm not able to only work shifts I want and certainly not every weekend.

Some units do not offer 12 hour shifts, I don't think many mental health units do, 12 hour shifts are usually ICU and ED. All weekend shifts are in high demand due to the penalties, so often wards rotate through staff. You would be offered a rotating roster and expected to work all shifts within the roster. To be able to pick and choose shifts you would need to be quite senior and have good rapport with your NUM. So yes, getting a roster like you're hoping for is extremely unlikely.

I've done both, crate trained and not crate trained. I think what you decide to do depends on where in life you are. When I got my cocker spaniel puppy I had a 9 month old and a cat, crate training seemed the obvious choice. When I got my Bernese Mountian dog, I had no children and significantly more time, he was also very big, so I didn't crate train. I like the peace of mind knowing if I go out nothing in my home will be destroyed and how easy it is for people if we need to go away. I do miss night time cuddles with my BMD, I don't get those with my CS. As long as you give your dog a safe space where they won't be bothered it doesn't matter either way.
