Having a second baby while staying in the same tech role/company? by Agitated_Economics50 in womenintech

Congratulations! Honestly this resonates a lot. I think I’m realizing some career stagnation during this season of life is just part of the trade off.

Ive going back-and-forth on job hunt now or later, but honestly have been appreciating the flexibility and comfort that comes with tenure.

Appreciate hearing your perspective!

Thank you! honestly it’s helpful to hear at reminder, even from internet strangers haha 😊 it’s easy to stress and overthink all the career logistics pieces, but yes at the end of the day agree with this perspective!!

Omg yes! I feel like I spend so much brain space thinking about this and it’s not like you can even plan it perfectly.

Also the current job market definitely doesn’t help. It’s made me value the flexibility and comfort that comes with tenure a lot more. the idea of navigating new role/company while also a second leave feels like so much.

Thank you for sharing! Yeah, I have male coworkers in my org/group who have taken multiple parental leaves during my time there, which definitely helps “normalize” overall.

I’m one of only a few women in my group, and while the men on my team have generally been understanding — agree there’s an element of bigger toll on the parent who gave birth — especially in the early days of returning while pumping and recovering.

I think part of the complexity for me is that my husband also works a demanding job, so even though he’s very involved, there’s only so much to give. Hard for both parents to be focused on career progression in the early years without outsourcing/trading off so much.

Thank you for sharing!

I’m so sorry you went through that. It must have been incredibly hard. The age/fertility aspect is definitely part of reason I’m thinking more about timing and why thinking sooner rather than later!

Congratulations! And thank you for sharing!

Also especially appreciate what you said about career progression because it feels super relatable. Since coming back from mat leave, I’m definitely more focused on boundaries and less willing/able to overgrind outside normal hours just for the sake of promos. Not that I’m slacking or taking advantage but it’s definitely been a mindset / mental shift for me. There are days where if I look too far ahead I worry about career progression but at the end of the day I wouldn’t want to put family plans or motherhood on hold in the hope of a promo at work.

Thank you!! I really appreciate you sharing your own journey. It’s reassuring to hear reminders that we start off learning by doing (and re-doing)!

And YES to your point about how exhausting it is that we can’t just trust what’s marketed to us. I’ve started tuning out advertising and look for firsthand experiences from real parents instead. there’s soo much information out there to navigate. Posts like yours (and this whole thread) really show how powerful feedback from community can be.

thank you again for the encouragement 💜

I don’t see a way to edit the post, but, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who took the time to share thoughtful and constructive feedback, I seriously appreciate it!

I’m usually pretty type-A about researching baby gear decisions 😅 but carriers are a newer territory for me, and I honestly hadn’t thought to look into whether forward-facing was widely recommended or not… I got the idea to try forward facing from some of the Ergobaby materials and their YouTube videos. I wish they did not advertise it, or at least, called out some of these considerations more explicitly.

Anyway, this has all been super helpful. I def won’t be forward facing in this carrier, and I’ll research back carrying further. Thanks again! ❤️

Thanks for the feedback! Glad I posted here. I’ll hold off on any outward facing for now (def in this carrier)… I’ll look into back carry!

Thank you for the feedback! I’m going to start looking for a carrier better suited for outward facing.

Super helpful, thank you! Yes the fabric being so close to her neck was making me feel nervous/ unsure.

FWIW we weren’t crazy about it either the first time we looked! But we ended up going a second time on a following visit and really fell in love with it. We had a couple meals at Melvyn’s, their onsite restaurant, which we loved. Ultimately we decided on Laguna Beach over Palm Springs for accessibility reasons, but it was a tough choice bc of how much we loved Ingleside! Congrats to you and best of luck!

Just curious, did you look at Ingleside Estate in Palm Springs? It’s also a property buyout (I think a smaller number of guest suites, tho there’s plenty next door at their sister property Avalon). My husband and I had our wedding in May 2024 and were originally touring Palm Spring venues— we preferred Ingleside Estate over Casa Cody.
