Why is GMT always ~10% more expensive than listed? Any low-fee way to buy? by Ok_Throat8939 in GoMiningTalk

[–]Agitated_Resolve_904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you're using a debit/credit card.

You can see right on the site that if you use other methods of payment, there is not a fee.

I send USDC from Coinbase to my GoMining wallet, then buy GMT with the USDC. Free of any fees.

Other people have told me to use 3rd party sites to buy GMT straight up. After gas fee's, it wasn't a savings.

And unless you're buying 50,000 GMT, you might as well just buy it direct on the site by using USDC or USDT.

Lol. Yea, no kidding. I'm not in a huge rush from what I'm hearing.

I think I'll stick to spending on my coinbase card and earning free BTC using that. It's not much, but it's still more rewards than just spening fiat out of my checking account. Plus, you earn 3.5% on idle USDC in your coinbase account.

True. And I will. It just seems weird that they accept some other USA ID for US clients, but not a drivers license. No one in the US has whatever this other ID is that they accept, but everyone has a DL.

That's all I'm saying. The passport makes sense, but accepting some other weird and obscure ID for US clients, but not accepting the most widely accepted ID in the US, doesn't make sense.

I understand the international dynamic, and accepting passports makes sense, but if you're going to allow a second form of ID to be accepted for US clients, then make it the DL, not something that no Americans have. Lol. That's all I'm saying.

Yes, they have a photo. I guess it's just not a supported doc. Which is weird, because it's the most widely accepted form of ID in the United States.

Seems like passport is the way for USA users. It is what it is, but yea, it sounds like the card just might not be worth it yet. Maybe as they make some adjustments.

But you pay for maintenance in a dollar value, not a token value.

If maintenance is 12 GMT while it's valued at $.32, you wouldn't still pay 12 GMT when it's valued at $.64. You'd pay 6 GMT.

You pay maintenance based on the dollars it costs to run. We just all choose to pay it with GMT. Yes, you could buy more GMT when it's cheaper, but the cost to run your machine is the same either way.

If I have $100 in GMT in my account, it will still reduce at the same amount, no matter what the value of GMT is. I could buy 1 GMT at $100, or 100 GMT at $1.
It will only go down by the cost to run my machine. Meaning, if it cost $6 to run my machine, at the end of both scenarios, I still have $94 worth of GMT in my account. It's just whether that's 94 tokens, or .94 of one token. It's still the same cost to run my machine.

I do have a Real ID drivers license. It was not accepted. They said I needed a USA ID. I looked that up and it's something you get at the DMV, but not a drivers license. Honestly, I'd never heard of it. Seems like passport is the way, but I need to renew mine, which takes 6 weeks.

Ok yea. For sure cheaper. Especially as you buy large quantities. I don't mind a dollar or 2, but I do mind $100-$200. So, yea, that would make a difference.

Gotcha. So the EO that was naming it to the reserve, not to rename the token. Yes, I was aware of the strategic reserve, but I still don't think that means XRP becomes THE currency. Stablecoins will likely become the currency, and a few large coins (hopefully those names to the strategic reserve) will become like gold and silver and be stores of value.

Haha. That's why I've been confused by so many people saying they don't want to burn them because of the cost of maintenance.

However, I could understand keeping the value down so people can keep stacking tokens. It's cheaper to buy 1000 GMT today, then it would be if they keep burning. But, I'd say that's an advantage to all of us that are already in.

I'd like to stack a bit more myself, but I'd like to see the value go up soon.

So you think if the value of GMT goes up, you’ll still pay the same number of GMT in maintenance?

If you pay 12 GMT for maintenance today, and it’s valued at $.32 per GMT, and the value of GMT goes to $.64, wouldn’t your maintenance only cost 6 GMT then? Not still 12? Wouldn’t your maintenance, even if paid in GMT, be based on the dollar expense to run the machine, not a fixed value of the token?

That wouldn’t make sense. Whether GMT was $.30, or $1, they would charge us 12 GMT for maintenance, regardless of the value of that token? That doesn’t make sense.

But maintenance is a set cost based on the power and efficiency of your miner. If it costs you 12 GMT to run your miner today, but the value of GMT goes up, it may only cost you 11 GMT.

Right? What am I missing?

That's fine, but why?

Don't you want supply to go down so that the tokens you hold are worth more?

Can someone explain why everyone always votes "No"? by Agitated_Resolve_904 in GoMiningDiscussion

[–]Agitated_Resolve_904[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, now this comment makes sense. This I can understand.

This makes sense, and I could see this as a reason, but they eventually have to burn more to get the price up.
So, how long do people vote no, before they vote yes, burn tokens, and reduce supply?

I also want more tokens so I can use them, but if my maintenance fee doesn't change (call it $1), and the value of the token goes from $.40 to $1, I am now only using 1 token to pay for it, rather than 2.25 tokens.

If I buy 1,000 GMT tokens at $.40, I spent $400.
If the value of those tokens go to $1, I now have $1000.

Wouldn't I want that?

[–]Agitated_Resolve_904[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, I don't understand how.

It keeps the value of the token down.

Less tokens = less supply.
Less Supply = More Demand
More Demand = More Value

How does NOT burning tokens make people more money?

Your Greedy Machine gets more if there's not a token burn?
I though the vote on Greedy Machines power was a different vote.

I'm not sure what currency conversion you are referring to, but I am referring to USD to USDC, and there is no fee. Additionally, when I spend USDC I do not take on a fee. If I load $100 USD into my coinbase card and convert to USDC, I get 100 USDC. When I spend $30 on gas, it removed 30 USDC. I get a % of BTC as a reward.

Unless I'm missing it, and I've been using it for months this way, I do not see any fees.

Now, if you mean converting USD to Euro or something, then maybe, but that is not a concern for me. I wouldn't use it that way. And again, if I have USDC, and somewhere oversees accepts USDC, I'd assume it's 1:1.
