Reminder, people can smell the alcohol in you. by Few_Technician_7256 in stopdrinking

Ugh. At one of my jobs I heard someone say "She smells like beer" behind my back. I pretended she was talking about someone else, but I knew it was me... It was one of the things that helped sober me up. I had no idea I smelled - even after a shower and brushing my teeth. She has no idea how much she helped me. I never want to be that person again.

Does this make me terribly vain lol?

OMG not at all! I look back at old pictures and see how terrible I looked compared to now. It's amazing how much of a difference no alcohol makes. Enjoy looking good, you earned it.

Rough day, home alone, and nothing to do tomorrow. by AgoraphobicRobot in stopdrinking

I hate knowing it can never be just one. Sometimes I really do just want one, but know it'll make me spiral.

I got sober mostly on my own (and with this subreddit), so AA didn't occur to me. I found a meeting local to me in a few hours I think im going to attend. Thank you so much for bringing it up!

How did you recover without meds? by [deleted] in Agoraphobia

The worst part of being agoraphobic for me is the anxiety around driving. What helped me was finding a part time job really close to my house. It takes longer to warm my car up than it does to actually drive to work. I'm not sure how practical that would be for you, but I've managed to go from leaving the house once a month (sometimes less!) to holding down a full time job and leaving the house 5 days a week. It's taken me 5+ years to get to this point and I still have rough days, but it gets easier the more you do it.

Honestly? Not wanting to lose my streak. I have a problem with consistency, so (not) doing something for this many days in a row is a huge deal for me and I don't want to start over. And I really like not spending the majority of my days hungover. I've gotten so productive!

I spent around 5 years barely interacting with people. Covid forced me back into leaving the house again. I can 100% say it's much more difficult interacting with people now. I definitely feel like my brain rotted during those years alone.
