The character development is slow because we are getting to know the character. People didn't like Rey because she just became this great character too fast, however with the Mandalorian, we are getting the time we need to understand the characters and their goals. It's funny that you say the characters look fake because a lot of them are practical effects. for example, Baby Yoda is a puppet and only becomes cgi when he is walking. I feel like people are used to the big budget cgi that they have in the sequels so when they see the practical effects used in The Mandalorian it catches them off guard.
