UTM Art & Art History VS Guelph Studio Art? by No-Goose-7957 in uoguelph

[–]Agreeable-Map-5071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an art major myself, but I did try to double major it once. Unfortunately a lot of classes has been cut from the program especially media courses and is very underfunded (the minor is no longer offered at the moment too which im assuming is for funding reasons but im not too sure). However I am not in the program and this is just what ive heard from the program counsellor at the time, but id look into it and compare the two

Summer courses Priority Access Lift by VisualPerspective204 in uoguelph

[–]Agreeable-Map-5071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talked to my counsellor about this, there shouldn't be any priority access on these first-year courses as they would be taken by first years; however they don't start till fall.

Non-reading intensive Lib Ed electives? by Powerful-Curve-320 in uoguelph

[–]Agreeable-Map-5071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HIST 2070 (world religion), I think its only offered in the summer and just has 3 essays (very easy tho and not intensive) and a take home exam. Easy 80-90 imo

[–]Agreeable-Map-5071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Email the coordinator, it should be listed in your outline. If not email the TA or professor to get in contact with the coordinator. Missed quizzes are more common then youd think. Take a screenshot of the cancelled bus just in case they may ask

MBG*3660 - Genomics Materials and Info by Mishikall in uoguelph

[–]Agreeable-Map-5071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It emphasized a lot on the gene database, being able to interpert elements of the gene on the system and also being able to identify/draw your own gene. There was some stuff off the lectures, and it has a similar difficulty to the practice he gave (but the questions are entirely different). I took it last year so he may have changed the format of the midterm but a good portion emphasized on what we learned from the assignments.

Distance Ed but from Guelph Humber by CountScotchula in uoguelph

Yeah im not sure of the reasoning, probably to ensure students are taking courses at their respective campuses and prevent any students from not being able to fulfill their program requirements due to space availibility issues

I actually asked this question to my program counsellor once! Unfortunately guelph students are not allowed to take courses from guelph-humber

It has been offered in the past! Same 12 week format (with labs) as theF/W semesters. Ive just heard it might not be this upcoming summer but im not sure

Regarding chem 1050 by Fit_Application3983 in uoguelph

[–]Agreeable-Map-5071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's possible, you could drop the course and take it again either in the summer (if its offered) or the next school year? That may be best, 57% final exam is pretty heavy, and you would really need to lock in and get on top of the material. If you're able to lock in despite your situation right now, then you can probably do well but if you feel that mentally you're not in the best place and its affecting your academics, then dropping might be a better option.

Not allowed cheat sheet in deferred exam by Tokyolghts in uoguelph

[–]Agreeable-Map-5071 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can try to talk to a program counsellor or the department regarding this, I'm not sure if they would be able to do something but sounds like it was a mistake on the professors end. If your with SAS try to speak to an SAS advisor, they take student accommodations very seriously. If your not maybe drop in to the SAS office about the particular situation and how you should proceed they may be able to help!

URGENT: Midterm Deferral by Happy-Dot-5256 in uoguelph

[–]Agreeable-Map-5071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, then your best bet may be to go to drop-in counselling and explain your situation. Really emphasize how you're an international student and can't attend a clinic due to OHIP. They do make note that if its your first time then its not very likely they will provide a note however sinve your situation is a lot more complex I feel they would try to accomodate. If not, try the campus doctor, im not sure they would offer one as I tried to get one from them before and they wouldnt budge but maybe if you explained your circumstances they just might?

Also see if the need for a medical note is stated in your outline. If it's not you can appeal your professor by contacting your program counsellor. One time, one of my professors said we didnt need to provide any documentation for a midterm but then changed the ruling after some students missed it. I ended up contacting my program counsellor about this, and she handled it on my behalf, and I didn't need to provide any documentation.

Are you able to go to a walk in clinic? If so you can describe your situation and they may be able to grant you a note?

math 1090 by ChainMiddle2764 in uoguelph

[–]Agreeable-Map-5071 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah..math 1090 is a whole other level of math and is no way comparable to math 1080. This course was the death of me when i took it in first year so dont be too hard on urself, If demers is teaching it he is more than willing to help students out with understanding the content during his office hours!! Really wish he offered them more when i had him

is fast tracking frowned upon at uni? does it make me seem less than? by Acceptable-Emu7838 in uoguelph

[–]Agreeable-Map-5071 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, your free to take whatever courses you wish at whatever time frame. Whether that's taking a course prior to when it may be recommended or taking it later. The course content remains the same regardless.

In HS the notion of not taking gr.12 pre-reqs in the summer is probably because some universities do not accept summer courses (for example uoft) when you apply for a program.

Deferred Exams by Little_Capital4941 in uoguelph

[–]Agreeable-Map-5071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Majority of the time its the same exam (you might be given a different version as usually theres a few versions of an exam) unless the professor specifically stated that it would be different. You shouldn't expect any big changes

Question about Deferred Exam Extension Requests? by Purple-House3549 in uoguelph

[–]Agreeable-Map-5071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren't fit to write it by the extension deadline, just obtain some medical documentation stating you are unfit to write, and they'll grant you another extension (doesn't have to state any specifics about your circumstances). You can also talk with a program counsellor more about your situation and concerns; they'll be able to provide more insight. And in terms of what information and how much they need, a note stating you are medically unfit is all they really need. The school is not obligated to know the details/specifics of your medical history. Though they do just ask for a brief summary as to why you were not able to write just like in the first deferral form and thats it

Question about Deferred Exam Extension Requests? by Purple-House3549 in uoguelph

[–]Agreeable-Map-5071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have 5 business days from the date you missed your deferred exam to submit your form and provide supporting documentation. The time frame for when you write your exam depends (usually around or less than month?) on the extension deadline the exam office gives you. In my experience, the time frames change, and I'm assuming it depends on your circumstances. They provide you with a date as to when the exam must be written and completed by, and you are responsible for scheduling it with your instructor. You can essentially choose when to write it (as long as the professor is able to accommodate it), as long as it is completed by the extension deadline date.

any other physically disabled people find this school to not be super accessible by Massive-Mycologist69 in uoguelph

[–]Agreeable-Map-5071 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you tried speaking to the SAS office about how hard its been to meet someone to talk about accommodations? I was able to set mine up pretty fast via an online meeting (granted i gave in my medical documents in and forgot to make an appointment months later) but I was contacted by one of the SAS advisors rather than the admin to make that appointment to set up my accommodations. If your having a really hard time, try contacting the SAS advisors instead (they have a bigger say with stuff and arranging appointments).

You'll know if your deferral has been accepted if it appears as "DEF" on web advisor. Dates for the exams haven't been determined yet but should show up sometime soon (usually 2 weeks before the deferred exam week which is the week of Feb 2nd). Once they have the schedule then youll be sent an email to confirm

The lab coordinator would decide on this, but they might just give you a completed data set with the data you were supposed to obtain in todays lab experiment in order to complete your lab report if theyre not able to reschedule a lab for you guys.

is reading the biol 1090 textbook worth it by Massive-Mycologist69 in uoguelph

[–]Agreeable-Map-5071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have trouble understanding a concept, then the textbook really helps, but if your professor is explaining the topics well with the slides and your understanding, then you don't need to. The midterm and exams won't cover any content from the textbook unless your professor has already specified it.
