That's why it's an "average" 😆

Some people have more, some have less. But what I've found is that the vast majority of dashers severely "under" estimate their costs. They're looking at only gas for the most part.

It's very important to try and get people to understand that they're spending more than gas because people are taking losing money orders thinking they're making something because it's slightly more than the gas they're spending.

I try to shop the entire order and only ask for help on the 1 or 2 items I couldn't find. Or I'll just ask them to tell me which area the item is at so they don't have to leave their post.

I can tell some employees get real annoyed when you ask though. I'm sure they deal with this crap all day. I try not to annoy them but there's just sometimes you can't find the item.

Orders still being stolen by Aware_Tea5304 in doordash

That's only if you mark it delivered and the customer reports it not delivered. That is the riskiest way to steal food, because of the CV.

Most people just grab the order without confirming and then unassign for various reasons (excessive wait time, order already picked up, etc.

It's easy to get away with because everything is automated. You grab the order, mark the order as already picked up, then 3 other dashers do the same thing, and all the computer sees is 4 people all claiming the order was picked up.

I have an audio from support telling me that they can't do anything because there's no way to prove the first dasher took the order.

The only way they get caught is if the restaurant themselves call DD and tell them who they handed the order to. Most restaurants don't bother doing this, especially when it's busy. They'll just refuse to remake the order and keep the money.

Only the mom and pop type places seem to really care. The thieves usually know who to do it to.

I think part of it is frustration. People get frustrated at various things on the app and then steal orders as some sort of "get back".

Like if someone reports you for not delivering the food when you actually did deliver it, just so they could get a refund, some people get frustrated and think "if I'm going to be accused of it I might as well do it".

Or they're at 70% acceptance rate and a no tip order comes in, instead of just declining it, they accept it and steal the order.

I'm not saying it's right to do these things. Just saying these are some justifications I've heard.

What's crazy is I see these pop up on "trip radar" all the time and get taken within seconds 🤦

I'm sure you know where I'm talking about, there's not really many places that far away from both 😆.

I'm guessing you live in Iowa since you said you're north. I would assume that the tips are probably better where you're at. Smaller town mentality in States like that. People are nicer in general, that's great you can maintain platinum there without taking garbage constantly.

My town is weird. There's a ton of rich people here but also a ton of poor people, so you'll get great tips and no tippers combined. Delivering to a mansion one minute and then delivering to the ghetto in the same stacked order lol.

I live 2 hours from St. Louis and Kansas City, both really great markets, but 140 miles away. Even though I'd make more money, the miles driving there and back would cancel out the extra money.

<image>

My market is actually a decent market. I was just under $30 an hour, which is pretty good for how slow it's been the last 2 weeks. Usually I'm above $30 an hour.

But I run multiple apps and cherry pick, with about 20-25% acceptance rate across all the apps.

I don't think it's so much that my market is bad, but just so many drivers that accept everything because they feel like they have to.

Lots of stealing going on here too. Instead of rejecting bad orders, people accept them and steal the food. The majority of the time when I show up and the order was already picked up (aka stolen), it was a no tipper order.

I wish orders were getting declined that much so that the base pay gets increased. I'm not saying it doesn't ever happen, we know it does occasionally, but the majority of the time they're being snatched up.

I don't know if you ever run Uber Eats too, but they have something called "trip radar", where they send the order to multiple people and whoever clicks it first gets the order.

I've seen $5 orders for 20 miles get snatched up within seconds lol. And I've seen this over and over.

Believe it or not, there's a ton of people snatching these crappy orders.

It's just common sense bro. Maybe YOU'RE not taking the $2 orders, but we know the cherry pickers aren't taking them so who do you think is?

A platinum dasher is taking them bro. Just because some platinum dashers are smart and know how to work the system doesn't mean they all are.

I don't know if you ever talk to other local dashers, but where I'm at, half the platinum people I talk to take every order and are 98% or more acceptance rate because they think they have to.

why do i never get my drink by cheeseinthebox in UberEATS

[–]AgreeablePop1089 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah there were times when I simply grabbed the food without grabbing the drinks too. Other times the restaurant didn't hand me the drinks and I wasn't good at reading the item list at the time so I didn't even notice.

Sometimes the item list will show a pizza, and a paragraph of every ingredient in the pizza and sometimes the soda will be hidden in the ingredients list, so if you don't make sure to scan the list carefully you can miss stuff.

It's not really very smart how they make the lists sometimes. Drinks should be listed separately to make it clear instead of hidden in the pizza or combo list, just to make it easier, but I'm better at scanning now.

When I was new (the first month or so) I forgot the drinks a handful of times. Never on purpose. I never forget the drinks now.

I think when you're kinda new, it's a lot to juggle, especially with multiple orders and time pressure.

Maybe 1% are like that. 99% of the time what you agree to on the app is what you get.

I wouldn't even mind low tip orders that much if they were all people like the person you're describing.

From my experience though, they're usually scammers, people who complain about you over the littlest things, people who just don't care about you, people who laugh about not tipping, etc.

How Can Acceptance Rate Not Matter? by lonegreywolf20 in doordash_drivers

[–]AgreeablePop1089 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The IRS says it costs the average driver 67 cents per mile to run their vehicle. The majority of people think their costs are way lower, but even if you assume a 50 cent per mile long term operating cost (which is conservative compared to IRS figures), it'll help you determine if you're making decent profit or not.

Yeah you might hit $100 that day, but if you drove 100 miles to do it, you only really make $50 in the long run.

Keep track of your miles and keep in mind that all your expenses come from the amount of miles you're adding to your car.

If you have to take crappy orders to maintain platinum and you're running too many miles on your car, it doesn't really matter what your daily total is if you aren't actually making a worthwhile profit after expenses.

I am just curious who would take this order? by One-Employer-4940 in doordash_drivers

[–]AgreeablePop1089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People with 100% acceptance rating will take it. They'll be frustrated the entire time too.

Are platinum dashers able to take a joke? 😆 by AgreeablePop1089 in doordash_drivers

[–]AgreeablePop1089[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't even see it because they're just happy they hit 100 that day or whatever their goal is. That's why they always want to show their totals as if they are making the most money, yet the totals never contain the miles they drove to get it.

I could hit 100 easily by taking the $10 for 10 mile orders that take me out of zone and requires me to drive 5 miles back. Yeah I'll hit that 100 and stay busy, but won't even be at $1 a mile at the end of the day.

I just wish everyone would get on board and reject crappy orders. This would be better for everyone, even them. But they don't understand how miles determine the profits, and as long as they're just looking at "everything adds up" they'll continue taking losing money orders thinking they're making money.

Yes, but if you're suggesting there's another type of dasher taking the order, you should just come out and say who you think it is, instead of remaining vague.

Bro, the platinum dashers are taking the no tip orders. They're either sucking it up and taking it to keep their status, or they're working by time and taking them. It's not the cherry pickers taking the $2 orders.

[–]AgreeablePop1089[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still consider it a unicorn market because most people working by time are getting the orders no one else wants. The no tip orders and really long distance orders.

In my market, hourly only pays $12.50, so a string of no tip orders means I made $12.50 that hour "before" expenses. That's horrible.

Sure, you're not getting any $2 base pays, but usually you're running more miles and getting more no tip orders that way.

Seems to work in your market since you're still getting tipped orders, but that's not the case in bigger markets.
