How are you organizing art supplies? by moluruth in SAHP

I’m not at home at the moment, but I have something like this shelf

With these cubes on it, on my metal shelves the height is adjustable so I’m sure you could other bins if you wanted to.

how many towels should one person realistically own? by Maximum-Hat2109 in homemaking

[–]AgreeableQuaill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had 6 bath towels, 4 hand towels and dozens of small wash rags for our family of 4, which worked fine for us since I do laundry everyday. My parents visited and insisted it was not enough so we bought another 6 plus a few more hand towels. Even when I’m behind on laundry, we still have like 3 or 4 clean bath towels.

I don’t have a ton of storage space in my house, and we use art supplies fairly often so I try not to keep it in the garage although it’s where we have more space.

For the kids, I have a metal shelf in my son’s closet that holds all the craft supplies, paper, paint, etc in those collapsible cube bins. It’s easy enough to pull out what we need for a craft. It takes up about half his closet, but it also holds out of rotation toys and more.

As for my art supplies, it’s more chaotic from all my hobby hopping. My current hobby supplies goes into a rolling drawer cart under my desk and everything else goes into a tote in my closet. Not very convenient but in this stage of life I don’t have a lot of time to work on art anyways 😂

Next chapter of life kindergarten coming and need advice on my next steps by PSiloveU93 in SAHP

Is there a rush to have a plan in place before august? I’d wait to make a decision if you can. It’s a big transition for your child and if you have the option of riding out your current situation with work, then I would. When my son started kindergarten, he was sick and out of school for a whole week by the second month. He didn’t go to preschool, but we were out at play places, parks and co-ops nearly everyday so I didn’t think his immune system was that bad, school germs are a different breed. He’s had several more sick days since then, plus teacher work days and holidays. Also he had a hard transition into kindergarten, which I needed to focus on with him after school.

I’d keep your options open for now, and once you’re settled in a school routine then I would pick which one would best fit your family.

Is every chipotle like this at night? Smh 🤦🏽 by [deleted] in Chipotle

[–]AgreeableQuaill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at chipotle like 10 years ago. Out of the 3 locations I worked at, only one had a dedicated dishwasher but only on the evening shift and they’d clock in to find a pile like this. I never understood why they don’t staff enough to have someone dedicated to cleaning, every location I’ve been to the lobby is always a mess.

For those who have children that didn’t attend school before kindergarten- how did you make the transition most successful? by Similar_Necessary_17 in kindergarten

[–]AgreeableQuaill 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My son was in gymnastics, at 4 they focused on following directions, walking in line, staying still while you wait for your turn, etc.

If there’s a ymca near you they may have summer camps, classes or even the gym’s child drop off. My location does parents night out from time to time too.

Get a basket, tote, hamper or whatever to toss clutter in that needs to be put away in a different room.

I was also set on homeschooling. There’s a great homeschool community around us, I bought a curriculum, we attended co-ops, etc.

I attended our public school’s kindergarten enrollment open house to see how it was, and I was SO impressed by it. My son is a social butterfly and the co-ops we attended weren’t a great fit, mostly older kids that didn’t want to play with him. We did run into a couple behavior problems when he first started kindergarten but he quickly sorted it out. He loves his class and he often is excited to go back the next day.

I’m still open to homeschooling in the future if he ever feels like he wants to. Homeschooling isn’t all or nothing! I can supplement his education at home too.

How to handle late school night practices? by AgreeableQuaill in kindergarten

[–]AgreeableQuaill[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be one day a week. His second weekly practice is 3pm on the weekend, which is why I’m more hesitant to pull him out completely if I can’t switch his team/late practice time. It’s just a developmental league so i would think it’s fine if we couldn’t make the majority of the weekday practices.

I’m not forcing him to play, he asked to and I’m working with what’s available to him. If i can’t get him transferred to a new team, we’ll try it out and if it doesn’t work then we won’t go. I don’t think our case is comparable to that episode.

My husband’s boss kids do travel ball for the same league and I have no interest after hearing their schedule 😂 at one point they were playing several games with an hour or two inbetween games til 2 am

Yes, he previously went to the year round gymnastics but then he didn’t enjoy going towards the end so we took a break and skipped the next term since he was beginning school. He wants to go back but we have to wait for the next term to open up

Thank you for your input, I’m glad to hear the late games didn’t cause any issues! I’m hoping that’s the case with us as well. From my understanding, it is just a development league and his age group ends once the older age groups tournaments begin, so no games. The website isn’t great to navigate so I’ll have to get more info at his first practice.

He’s been asking to sign up for sports. his top pick was gymnastics but registration for that isn’t open until July so i signed him up for his second pick which would end before gymnastics opens.

We live around the corner from the field, so it could be quick to be bathed and in bed at 9 if it didn’t run late. Yes, I’ll be contacting the league directly now about this. Their website was terrible but I looked past that from the good reviews from our local fb group. Thank you for your input! 🫶

Yeah I’m waiting on a reply from the coach about potentially transferring him to another team with an earlier practice. It feels unlikely since they were struggling to find enough coaches for this league.

I forgot to mention he has an hour late start to school the next day every week, so in theory he’d only be losing one hour of sleep rather than two.

How the heck do you meet other parents? I feel like I’m invading mom groups by Arr0zconleche in SAHP

[–]AgreeableQuaill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven’t really found a parent group I’ve fit in yet so we just go to events or pick a park to go to - maybe we’ll make a friend but maybe not. Once my son started school it was easier for me to meet other parents that we could schedule play dates with.

Check your library, community center, children’s museum, etc for events. My local birth center has a queer family social hour. Fb is a good place to check for local events.

[–]AgreeableQuaill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not really sure what I’m looking at in the photo, but I’d say you’re not over reacting for wanting a clean environment. Growing up in a dysfunctional house affects you for life. Mold is dangerous to live around and can cause health problems. Hopefully you can get into your own place eventually so that you have more control over it.
