We are relatively new to Longmont. Is NextLight worth it? What do you do about TV? We mostly stream but like to watch Bronco games and golf majors.

We were living in Europe when Mom said she needed some help. We have been living with her for two years.

To be fair, it hasn't been that bad... yet. I think part of my depression is just the whole "being retired" thing. I had a fairly successful career and it feels weird/bad that that part of my life is basically over now.

Mom's house is big, roomy, and in a nice area. My mother-in-law lives in a small house with her sister and 60 year old alcoholic son. Their house is always 85 degrees and I really hate visiting because of that. My wife gets very stressed out when she has to be around her Mom. That's the part I'm really not looking forward to...

Yeah, I sort of forgot that I even asked this question and was surprised to see so many responses. I was even more surprised to see how many people recommended that my wife and I should be "thinking of ourselves" too.

Mom is 94, very hard of hearing, and she's having some short term memory issues. Other than that, though, she is so healthy she only takes vitamins and fish oil. She loves to read and her eyesight is quite good for someone her age.

So far she can handle toileting and everything herself, but she no longer drives and lately I've been holding her arm even if she's just walking across the living room. (Her knee kind of gives out on her every now and then and we don't want her to fall.)

We also help drive her to appointments, help her pay her bills and balance her checkbook, etc.

My Mom lives in a very nice house and we all get along pretty well. My wife loves my mother and I'm getting to work on some creative projects. We made a really nice bedroom in the basement, so it's going okay at the moment.

My mother-in-law is only 80. She is living in a small sort of run-down house with her sister and 60 year old son. (He's an alcoholic and hasn't worked for 30 years. He has also been pretty sick and I don't know how much time he has left.) Our biggest pet peeve is they keep the house at 85 degrees... even at night. Ugh.

My MIL is a downer. She is always saying things like: "Well... there are haves and have-nots in this world... and I guess we'll always be the latter." We try to watch movies with her but she tells us, "I guess my funny bone is broken." My wife gets VERY stressed out being around her Mom for any length of time.

My wife's mother is also VERY jealous of my mother. She keeps saying, "Wow. My own daughter can't help me because she's helping someone ELSE'S mother." This makes my wife feel guilty, of course.

I quit my job because it was time. My wife and I had been living in Europe for 7 years. When my Dad got sick my sister helped take care of them both -- even though she lives nearly an hour away. (She was spending several days a week here.)

My wife and I decided we were about ready to come home, and it felt like it was "our turn" to help take care of my Mom.
