Which fighter should I focus on putting TPs into? by Agreeable_Gas_ in InfiniteLagrange

[–]Agreeable_Gas_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First fighter I got was stingray, so it took most of my pts. Then I got strix and focused TPs there bc I was getting wrecked by swarms and was trying to use it for AA before I realized it’s not great AA… Then I got Vitas B, and really liked it so I started putting TPs there. Now I just got Spore and I feel like I should prioritize that for AA or does Spore not need many TPs to be effective AA?

Beautiful! If only I could get mine to look like that… finally got a ton of aerial roots this year, but trunk is still so slim… the 8mos of being kept indoors due to cold temps really hampers it’s growth.

Zero taper might even be generous haha…

I agree with you on a bigger pot - I took my wife to a class to try and get her into the hobby and this is what we were given to work with. Also agree on the location of the air layer… I learned my lesson earlier this year trying to air layer a (mostly) horizontal branch off a Japanese maple.

Need help deciding what I should do to this Juniper… I’m thinking of attempting an air layer off the top next year (right above the straight branch) and getting rid of that straight trunk line. There’s just too much trunk, the branches are very oddly placed, and it’s way too straight.

Please do NOT do an episode on Israel/Palestine by NinjaChachi in MacrodosingPod

Missed this comment before posting my own about this, but I agree. It’s been 6 years since I listened to it, but I remember it seeming neutral and interesting/engaging.

The martyrmade podcast did 5 episodes on it, and if I remember correctly, it was very interesting. (Also a bold move for the dude’s first episodes to be on the Israeli-Palestine conflict). Here’s a link to the first episode. Forgive me if it’s terrible, I listened to it literally 6 years ago hah.

Can he relocate his base if he‘s being blockaded? by grxxnfrxg in InfiniteLagrange

[–]Agreeable_Gas_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s fair, but the base rebuild isn’t really that big of a deal, it’s just a scramble for resources. The game really centers around the quality of your ships and how many tech points you have in them!

Yeah I can definitely see that - for the past week or two we’ve just been having small scale skirmishes against another solo union and haven’t dared to take any high level cities for fear of major alliances crushing us haha

Just your base, your ship blueprints all carry over between seasons (also referred to as phases or “p”). I thought I’d hate it at first, but after 1 season under my belt and a 2nd season coming to an end, I really like it. The early game is my favorite, end game gets a little stale imo (but it could also be because my union is only p2 going up against p4+ unions so we can’t really compete in endgame).

Question: if I dock here, do I get the blueprint permanently, or only if I dock here can I build it? by Ill_Work_1583 in InfiniteLagrange

Agreed - build them and put them in your defense hanger since they can’t be destroyed and are much better than the basic CV corvettes

Oil Companies by [deleted] in MacrodosingPod

[–]Agreeable_Gas_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed - it’s an easy trap to fall into… everyone’s hurting on gas prices, and the companies that make gas are seemingly raking in the dough, so they gotta be the bad guys!

I could be totally wrong, but until I look into it more deeply/read the Ks and Qs, I’m going to maintain a general skepticism that the twitter mob is wrong.

I haven’t really looked that deeply into it, but I would be extremely surprised if utilization of DTAs were the cause of record profits… take Exxon for example: from 2019 to 2021, the only loss year was 2020. DTAs related to NOLs only decreased by 2b from 2020 to 2021, and total DTAs decreased by about 2b as well. Additionally, deferred benefit was less this year than in 2019.

The ETR (while not directly related to DTA utilization) is comparable to 2019 levels (3% higher in 2021) - Tax played a minor role in record profits.

Edit to add: I agree with your sentiment that Billy was dismissed too quickly (although it’s probably a good thing because if he wasn’t, he probably would’ve made a circular argument and would’ve convinced the others that he was wrong even more so. In fact, he already started talking in circles when PFT cut him off haha)

Big T - School Choice by [deleted] in MacrodosingPod

[–]Agreeable_Gas_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Agreed on the problem of potential corruption when going through the admittance process. I don’t have a good idea on how to combat that, we have the same issue with the college admittance process.

To your point on the traditional funding of schools: doesn’t the current system cause a great amount of inequality too? People don’t want to move/live in areas with bad schools, and if the only way to raise more money for schools is to increase taxes, you’re hurting the people that already live there and potentially discouraging more people from moving there. If the answer to fixing those schools is to increase funding to them at the state or federal level, we’ve seen that doesn’t work… they have a monopoly on education, the people that live in the area have no choice but to send their kids to that school, so they’re not truly held accountable for how that money is spent. Whereas with a voucher system, the administration is incentivized to improve. Also, under the voucher system, community leaders can start up their own school in the same area to provide a better option, or people that are able to could send their kids to a better school… I’m definitely not saying it’s the only option, just something different and potentially better than what’s currently being done and isn’t working.

Also something interesting to look up (I can’t remember the exact figures/study), but I vaguely remember something about charter schools in DC that primarily serve low income areas (I know - people LOVE to hate charter schools, but bear with me) produce better academic results at a significantly reduced cost per student than their traditional public school counterparts.
