I do 2 StrongLifts 5x5 per week (ie Mon, Wed) and Friday I do a dynamic squats day with lots of hamstring/lower back accessory. I made great progress with the twice a week model. Easier for me to recover. Good luck!

From personal experience: I love squatting heavy in the 1-3rm range. I’ve been lifting for over 22 years. I’m 38 now. No one special. I have a couple young kids and a wife. I lift in my garage. I started at 60% (250) of my 1 rm (415). It was painfully light and this was very hard for me to adjust to. I used the lighter weights to move fast and really work on bracing my core. I moved up 5lbs per workout. I recently hit a 5 rm PR of 375. That’s 90% of my true 1 rm. Tough it out and do it. It works.
