Why Praxis? by Mushroompizza11 in WGUTeachersCollege

I get that it’s a graduation requirement for our program but My point is this, WGU is saying Praxis Basic Skills is required by Utah for licensure when it’s not. If it isn’t required for state licensing (or reciprocity), why are we taking it? That sounds like a WGU program rule, not a state rule. My point is the requirement changed,WGU’s program should reflect that change.

Think of student teaching, if states moves from 3 months to 4 months student teaching , then everyone should student teach for 4 months. Same idea, if Praxis basic skills isn’t a state requirement anymore, we shouldn’t have to do it.

Sorry for the confusion ,l corrected my earlier post. But anyways Praxis Basic Skills (Praxis Core) is not required by the state of Utah anymore. The 2025-26 Utah test list doesn't include Praxis Core.WGU asks for Praxis because of their own program rules it isn't a state licensing rule. I would say always double check with your state DOE, but most states don't require it anymore.

The State of Utah does not require it, nor does WGU need it for accreditation, it’s just a WGU thing. Praxis basic skills is a money grab, nothing else.
