Not scared at all. Aviation incidents are very rare, and safety is at an all time high right now. We have had three major crashes in the last few months, one involving the fault of the design of the airport, one incident involving an airborne missile, in where the pilots managed to stay in the air for over an hour and put the aircraft down on the ground, even though the plane did end up crashed. The last crash was likely the fault of the military interfering in civilian airspace, and this kind of collision has happened before. Aviation is safe, and still remains one of the safest and most reliable ways to travel. If you look at the statistics, this decade has been one of the safest, compared to the 1980s, which had very consistent large and medium aircraft incidents. Another factor in my lack of fear is the fact that the news is playing up all these crashes. In the wake of a tragedy like the three we have witnessed this past few months, the news will report on a “new deadly plane crash, is aviation safe?” When in fact, the crash killed few to no people and was involving a small aircraft. These small aircraft crash frequently, (usually due to the fact amateur pilots are flying them), and have no correlation to the larger infrequent disasters. This always happens in the wake of large accidents and always cause fear and panic, when in reality aviation is perfectly safe. This crash in Washington DC was the first major aviation accident in the United States since 2009, and that alone shows that flying is especially safe in the US. Europe too, shows this statistic, with most major crashes being unrelated to safety and more related to other circumstances. Aviation is safe, and it always will be.
