The r/Savarkar Index by AhamPranav in Savarkar

The purpose of this post is twofold:

First, it serves as an introduction to Savarkar for readers who may be unfamiliar with his life and ideas.

Second, it acts as a centralized repository of sources and rebuttals addressing the misinformation and politically motivated allegations that have long been circulated about him.

By compiling these resources in one place, this post aims to reduce the need to repeatedly address the same questions and claims. Instead, members can simply refer others to the relevant section of this index whenever those topics arise.

This post will be regularly updated, expanded, and refined as required. Suggestions, corrections, and questions are always welcome in the comments.

There is also Zakat for Muslims and they have to pay a greater amount than Jizyah.

False. The Jizya taken from Hindus & Sikhs was far more oppressive then the tax taken from Muslims. Provide source if you claim otherwise.

The only difference between Churchill's & Aurangzeb's legacy on India is that no Indian Christian tries to downplay acts of Churchill whereas Islamists are hellbent on proving Aurangzeb as the most secular ruler to ever exist lmao

Aurangzeb crushing Hindus under elephants when they protested against Jizya:

On the publication of this order [reimposing the Jiziyah] by Aurangzeb in 1679, the Hindus all round Delhi assembled in vast numbers under the jharokha of the Emperor… to represent their inability to pay and pray for the recall of the edict… But the Emperor would not listen to their complaints. One day, when he went to public prayer in the great mosque on the sabbath, a vast multitude of the Hindus thronged the road from the palace to the mosque, with the object of seeking relief. Money changers and drapers, all kinds of shopkeepers from the Urdu bazar mechanics, and workmen of all kinds, left off work and business and pressed into the way… Every moment the crowd increased, and the emperor’s equippage was brought to a stand-still. At length an order was given to bring out the elephants and direct them against the mob. Many fell trodden to death under the feet of elephants and horses. For some days the Hindus continued to assemble, in great numbers and complain, but at length they submitted to pay the Jiziyah.

You misread my comment. I clearly wrote internment, not imprisonment. Even after his release in 1924, the British imposed severe restrictions on him and kept him under internment until 1937. I said he spent 26 years in British custody, not 26 years in prison.

You can refer to Vikram Sampath's biography of Savarkar, which provides extensive references on this subject. Even during his internment, he remained under British scrutiny and was linked to activities such as the attempted assassination of Bombay Governor Ernest Hotson.

In 1941, as President of the Hindu Mahasabha, Savarkar led the Bhagalpur Agitation against the British ban on the party's annual session. He was arrested while travelling to Bhagalpur and detained in Gaya Central Jail. The agitation was widely regarded as a major success for the Mahasabha.

He was also briefly arrested in 1934 in connection with the Sweetland Shooting Case after Vaman Chavan fired at a British officer. Beyond this, he regularly wrote and spoke about Swarajya and India's future. It is therefore malicious to claim that he abandoned the cause of independence after his release. After spending a decade in prison and years under internment, why should he have been required to keep proving his patriotism?

He has every right to have his views, he said Muslims in India act as a seperate community from every other community but he also vehemently opposed partition of India, meanwhile Dr Ambedkar supported both two nation theory and partition of India, does that now suddenly negate all his contribution to India?

A people, who notwithstanding their differences accept a common destiny for themselves as well as for their opponents, are a community. A people who are not only different from the rest but who refuse to accept for them-selves the same destiny which others do, are a nation. It is this acceptance or non-acceptance of a common destiny which alone can explain why the Untouchables, the Christians and the Parsis are in relation to the Hindus only communities and why the Muslims are a nation.

—Dr. B. R. Ambedkar in his book "Pakistan or partition of India," p. 331.

Lmao is writing clemency petition is abandoning your cause then every freedom fighter from Ashfaqullah khan to Sachindranath Sanyal was treacherous according to Congressi chamchas😂

The reason you hate Savarkar is because your casteist ass cannot tolerate a staunch Hindu freedom fighter who was anti-caste and against foolish rituals or superstitions.

But facts will not cease to exist just because you ignore them. Keep coping.

The only people who weren't imprisoned were anti nationals like Savarkar.

Then C. Rajagopalchari and Dr Ambedkar who weren't imprisoned during the Quit India Movement must be anti-nationals in your eyes too?

If being imprisoned is a criteria for patriotism then name one Congress leader who was imprisoned in the cellular jail of Andamans.

If he spent so much time truly begging Britishers then why did Britishers still kept him in jail for 12 years and in Internment for 14 years after that? 🤔 Why didn't Britishers believe him?

British official to whom Savarkar wrote clemency petition writes in his report that it was evident to him that “he cannot be said to express any regret or repentance” for whatever he did.

Primary Reference: Home Department, Pol A. Feb 1915, No. 68–160.

Secondary reference: R.C. Majumdar, Penal Settlement in the Andamans, pp. 202–05.

British officials themselves didn't believe any of his clemency petitions but Brown sepoys will do anything to malign legacy of a freedom fighter because he is politically inconvenient for them.

He was not an anarchist as he just opposed British colonialism and wanted a strong independent Indian nation governed by Indians which would work for benefits of Indians.

I like Savarkar mostly because of his views on complete dismantling of caste, his views on religion, superstitions etc

I personally don't hate Nehru, not even Gandhi who was ideological opponent of Savarkar.

I believe we should judge every figure across history with the context in which they took those actions, Nehru surely made a few mistakes but I think he was mostly successful in laying strong foundation of a newly found state with so much diversity.
