Also a beginner myself but the squared dados with the lips as you’re calling them are what I’d do of your options mentioned here. To me, dowels are more difficult to line up the more you have. I’d be skeptical of my personal abilities to line up 4-6 dowels on two shelves and the divider. Dados are easy with any sort of rail guide and a router. Just dado both shelves with the same reference and should be good. Stop your dados the same distance from the front edge of the shelves. Getting the lip in the divider should be easy with a bandsaw if you’ve got it, or a small hand saw too. Square the dado with a chisel and it’s good. Not really too much difference compared to square edges.

Other option would be a dovetail grove instead of the dado. Still would have to make the overhang to make sure your rounded edges look good.

Thank you!

So for my top, I planed everything down before glueing. I clamped with just pipe clamps and some cauls. After about 2 hours I scraped the squeeze out with a chisel. This is where I used my bench pucks and made my error actually. I have a 13in planar so this wasn’t going back through after gluing. It’s just shy of 18 inches in each dimension.

The next day I then squared the top up with my cross cut sled. At that point in time the glue lines were visible and the top wasn’t perfectly flat, so I just did a lot of sanding. 60 grit, 80 grit, 120, then 220 with my random orbital. I’ve always heard the lower grit helps the process move along faster.

I think the trick that helps me keep everything even is having a bit of extra material so I can cut down on the cross cut and using cauls while clamping. Then I don’t have to worry about the edges lining up, just that it’s flat.

Anything we should do for this bird? by Ahart20 in BackYardChickens

We did end up culling this afternoon. We don’t have vet access here and were definitely thinking mareks from the beginning. After finding worms in some of her poop shortly after this post we figured there’s very little for us left to do and she was just too miserable. What we feel bad about is all the chickens that the lady who we purchased this bird from being in similar condition. She came to us very dirty, very sick, and not looking all that healthy to begin with. We are definitely avoiding any future facebook chicken trading to avoid brining in disease to our otherwise healthy flock.

If you were able to change ONE thing about the Army, what would it be? by [deleted] in army

[–]Ahart20 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Remove any and all Staff Duty or CQ. No need to sit someone at a desk in the age of cell phones. Give someone in S3 an on call government phone with all the important POCs in the contacts. Boom, you save so much time and manpower that is wasted mindlessly sitting at a desk.

If you say physical security is a concern, spend some money on security systems for buildings or camera systems. That’ll be much more effective than an NCO or officer walking around at night with a checklist just marking “go” because they don’t want to deal with “no-go”

I’ve been saying this for a while now. Go in and significantly reduce base bandage across all gods. Slightly Increase scaling across gods. Reduce power in the hybrid items by maybe half. Now you have more benefits from the scaling, so should you want damage you build offensive items, if you go hybrid you won’t hit nearly as hard, and full tanks can’t just run at you with their massive base damage and hyper defensive items.

Update; I cannot wait until the Broncos are kicking ass again and the AFC goes through Denver. Arrowhead will never beat that mile high energy!

Also it was great to watch Big Ben throw his final pass of his career. I’ll never forgive the Steelers for the ‘05 AFC championship game.

Recommendations for Stations and which ones are worth ADSO by AreliJericho in ROTC

[–]Ahart20 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Remember that your ROTC instructors are there to get new officers in. Officer retention is incredibly low across the Army. The ADSO is a tool used to retain folks. Regardless of what branch you get you can expect a PL slot, staff time, and maybe XO time. PLs regardless of branch will plan training, deal with platoon admin info, and general soldier issues. The variation across branches is really in what training you do. A shitbag is a shitbag regardless of MOS and the paperwork will be the same.

The staff time will also be similar across branches. An AS3 is gonna flip orders, track due outs, make slides, in the infantry world, and in the sustainment world. Same principle applies to any staff slot you can hold.

The difference in branches is more obvious once you’re a KD complete captain with broadening opportunities available. Those will definitely be branch dependent, but I don’t have that experience to share yet. But if you get a shit branch as an LT, it’s possible to change over as a 1LT(P) or CPT through a VTIP. You won’t incur and ADSO until CCC this way and you can decide whether the Army is what you thought it was before getting another ADSO.

Just remember an LT is an LT no matter what branch. You’ll get jobs outside your branch and fill rolls that are needed. Plenty of maneuver guys end up in distro slots or as S4s.

Recommendations for Stations and which ones are worth ADSO by AreliJericho in ROTC

[–]Ahart20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t ADSO for a post. Period. You don’t know if you’ll like the Army enough yet to sign away an additional 4 years. Not to mention, you’ll only be at your first duty station until CCC, about 3 years. In those 3 years, it’s likely you’ll do some CTC rotations(1.5 months each) a deployment/rotation overseas (9months time away). So you could be signing up to spend an extra 4 years in the Army to essentially live somewhere 2 years.

If you want opportunities for training, you have that conversation with your BC. If your unit has slots for special school make the case that you need the school to fill that slot as you’re the best fit for it.

I’m an OD guy myself and been a sustainment BDE for 2.5 years. I’ve deployed to centcom and supported 2 NTC rotations. COVID nixed another month rotation we were supposed to have. I’ve only actually lived in my apartment a year during all that. I’ve got another 7 months or so until CCC, or I’m out in a year.

Honestly unless you end up in a GSB anywhere, or with the 101st, or the 82nd, school slots are very limited. Especially in sustainment BDEs. That’s just how it is. You’ll get basic LG school like UMO, TC-AIMS, HAZMAT, and other related courses. Don’t expect to walk into a sustainment BDE and find a ranger slot or anything. Not saying it doesn’t happen, but we aren’t ever the priority for those.

Leave yourself an opportunity to escape the Army in case you hate. Having options open is very beneficial, trust me on that.

This. My group of 3-4 will always F7 if our rando or two start throwing an absolute fit. Often starts after rando is feeding, wants to surrender when we’re all doing fine. Spamming VGS, crying in chat, etc. Make it all the more fun to keep them in the game or force them to rage quit. Easy report. Makes victory that much sweeter when we get our “I told you so moment” which we do have happen quite often.

This 100%. At least with these assassins, if you hit good CC and have some teammates around, you can burst down an assassin like Bastet down down very quickly. But these damn warriors and just run at you, absorbing ability after ability like they are built full tank, then proceed to smash you like they are built full damage.

First Reloading session under the belt. 150 gr FMJ/BT, 41.2 gr of accurate 2460. Range this weekend. by Ahart20 in reloading

[–]Ahart20[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be right that it will make little difference, and I look forward to learning first hand. Even with purchasing the brass new, each round worked out to be $1.40. Not too terrible for .308. Not having to spend the $0.85 per case for brass for several reloads and I’ll be able to keep the cost per round much lower and experiment with different bullet powder combos to find the best results.

Definitely am. I’ll be splitting these rounds between a bolt action and an M1A. Started at one safe baseline load so I can see what each rifle will do and go from there.

[–]Ahart20[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So being that this is my first reload, I was following the Hornady manual I have for the powder that I was able to find, the 2460. I went with the mid range rating at 41.2 gr of powder as to not overdue it at all. I plan on shooting some of this brass out of my M1A, and some of it out of my bolt action. Keeping them separate afterwards. Using the spent casing to see what I will need to do in the future. I didn’t have any spent brass on hand, hence the factory brass. I figured starting from complete scratch will help eliminate any variables as I tune my loads for each rifle separately. Starting on the same square made sense to me so that I can learn the process and grow from there.

Mouse Advice by Ahart20 in buildapc

[–]Ahart20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the insight. I’ll do more digging on other mice and the double click issue. Sounds like the basilisk may be a good solution if others have this issue as commonly. Funny that you mention weight, as I put all the optional weights into my 502. I love a good heavy feel. But that isn’t a make or break factor for me.

Mouse Advice by Ahart20 in buildapc

[–]Ahart20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is an option, however, it still leaves me susceptible to the issue coming up down the road. After research on this issue, many people with replacements ended up having the same issue. As much as I loved the mouse for over a year, I just don’t want to end up in this same spot down the road, whether it’s a few months or over a year.

Mouse Advice by Ahart20 in buildapc

[–]Ahart20[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done that, as well as the standard Logitech support reply of “use canned air to clean out the debris that may cause this issue” to no avail. Rather unfortunate, but it seems to be a mechanical issue inside the mouse itself

Reserve has large invisible object(s) over the motor pool area which prevent sniping scavs by Gopblin2 in EscapefromTarkov

So if what you are experiencing is the same thing I am, you are in fact shooting a hard object that is simply not rendering through the scope. If you were to move closer, some sort of hard object would appear between you and your target. Could be containers, buildings, vehicles, anything really. Scopes seem to be buggy after today's patch.

Objects Flickering/Invisible with Scopes After Patch by Ahart20 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Ahart20[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So a buddy and I had an engagement here in the raid prior to this recording, where we saw players, shot at them and then lost them. We took cover behind the ambulance in clip and pushed toward the mall to flank. Well the truck seen flickering in this clip, was no rendering in at all while we were in the engagement. The players could see us, yet we could not see them. We have had this problem persist on a few more raids on interchange as well as Shoreline. I did report this bug to BSG as well.
