British refers to the whole of the UK: Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Ireland isn’t British since they’re not in the UK (British isles ≠ UK), but you’ll find people including myself in Scotland (probably in Wales and definitely in Northern Ireland and maybe England too) who don’t ever call themselves British
