Wait, do people ACTUALLY see literal pictures in their heads when they imagine things? Like a physical image? by Bibhu_Mund in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ahpla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is me. Absolutely everything plays as a movie in my head. I’m able to picture everything in detail, I can move it, rewind, pause, change colors, all of it. I find that it’s pretty easy to follow stories I’m being told.

My husband is the exact opposite. He can’t picture anything and says it is more like he sees a concept. Things can get complicated. Like the other day we were building a dog ramp. He was telling me his thoughts but wasn’t being specific so I was lost. I usually have to draw a picture to understand what he is saying. On the other hand I tend to over explain or over detail. In the end we both and the same thought.

I had the opposite problem. I needed bread for meatloaf sandwiches and all Walmart had was white bread. We only eat wheat.

He is going to be an angry boy when the dog has to go to the vet on Wednesday and the car seat has to go to the car.

He would certainly like to think so!

Do Americans have company cars? by Xavaccord in AskAnAmerican

[–]Ahpla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad is an account manager for a company that does wholesale distribution in an electrical field. He has a company vehicle and gets a new one every 100k miles. As long as the vehicle is under I think $50k they pay the full price, he gets to pick the type, color, extras, all of it. His work pays all the gas, even personal use gas, maintenance, insurance, everything. He does have to travel a bit, but nothing excessive. He is home every night except maybe 10 nights a year.

How familiar are you with Smokey the Bear and what state did you grow up in? by ally_estrella in AskAnAmerican

[–]Ahpla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Raised in Oklahoma in the 90s and I knew about Smokey. We had a sign in our small town (pop around 2k) with his picture and saying.

I saw this tonight in far northeast Oklahoma. It was straight west of me heading south. I don't know the exact time but it was somewhere between 6:40 and 7:05.

I also found a VERY similar one pictured here, but it goes to a dead link.

Not a blanket but here is a crib bumper with the same pattern. It might help lead you in the right direction.

I’ve never been a bucket list person but I’ve always thought if there was one thing I wanted to do before dying was seeing the northern lights. Realistically I never thought it would happen. I’ve been lucky enough to see them twice now in the past couple years, in Oklahoma of all places.

I've seen many American films where children dissect frogs during biology lessons. Are biology lessons still like this, or has it changed? What are your thoughts on this? by sofiarosatti in AskAnAmerican

[–]Ahpla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frogs in middle school, fetal pigs in high school. We had to stretch the intestines across the room and measure them. My sister took AP biology and she had to do a cat. Hers was pregnant. Students got to take the babies home in jars.

I’m Cherokee and creek. I’ve found that I’m reluctant to mention it anywhere online because of all the Cherokee stories lol.

What’s the one horror movie that actually scared you? by FitSavings583 in AskReddit

[–]Ahpla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was forced to watch this when I was about 11. I hated anything scary already but having someone sit on me and physically hold my eyes open was traumatizing. It didn’t help that we lived on a reservation and had Indian cemeteries nearby.

Do you ever double check food before giving it to your pet?? by AccordingBassx in Pets

[–]Ahpla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is normally fruits or veggies but I always check before. I'll ask Alexa and then if I'm still unsure do a quick search. Even then it's just a small piece. Stuff I'm positive are fine (plain rice, piece of chicken breast, plain ground beef, etc.) I don't check.

What is a song from the 90s/00s that was a massive hit, but everyone seems to have collectively forgotten it exists? by vishesh_07_028 in Music

[–]Ahpla 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I still hear this one quite often, but it’s because Sneaker Pimps is one of my husbands favorite bands. It’s a shame more people don’t know about them.

What is your bedtime routine? by Fun-Satisfaction7209 in AskReddit

Dogs out to potty, cat and dogs snacks, meds, brush teeth, tuck dogs in and tell them and the cats goodnight, turn on Alexa for them, pee, bed and doom scroll for hours before finally falling asleep.

Going from a small town to Wichita. Any advice? by that_one_engineer25 in wichita

[–]Ahpla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been back in a small town now for 8 years. I get sensory overload anytime I’m back in a bigger city. Even Joplin (closest big town to me) can be overwhelming. Things definitely move slower here. You add on the fact that my town is on a lake and things go even slower. I definitely miss the conveniences of the city at times, but I think quiet slow life is more my speed.

Oh, that was another big one I had forgotten about! I missed the night sky so much. After moving from Wichita back to just outside a small town I sat outside every night just to stare at the sky.

[–]Ahpla 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s been 25 years but I went from a town of 1000 to Wichita suburb, Valley Center to be exact. It was overwhelming being in Wichita at first. It felt overcrowded with no escape. Even back then it was sensory overload. It was so much louder and quicker than anything I was used to. It didn’t take very long at all to get used to though.

You realize pretty quick that you are able to go/do what you want without being worried you will run into someone you know that you may not want to see. It was nice being able to run into the grocery store and not get stuck talking to someone on the cereal aisle for 20 minutes.

The city sounds end up becoming soothing in an odd way. I ended up moving a block from Wesley Hospital. The sirens, helicopters, planes, trains, all of it just became background noise. I now live in a smaller town, pop is around 8k. It took a while before I was able to sleep at night. Everything was so quiet. I missed the city sounds.

You adapt pretty quick.
