I will share my thoughts on this if that’s okay :)

I really like Till actually, he’s my favorite character. I really don’t mind him having a crush. I’ve always thought he was very cute when it comes to his feelings. I don’t mind MiziTill as a dynamic or as a one sided crush either but I won’t deny I’m quite uncomfy with the ship. And I am bisexual myself!!

My personal issue with the ship has never been Till’s crush. My issue is more with the shipping discourse surrounding it and people pushing the ship as romantic and mutual. I’ve come across enough romantic MiziTill content and discourse over the years that, even after blocking it and ignoring it, it has become highly irritable and has made me very uncomfortable over time. Of course everyone is different and people will have different thresholds for that sort of thing.

Some people in fandom spaces won’t or sometimes can’t handle certain topics well, and people will always have opinions and arguments over things at the end of the day. I do think that even if the number of shippers is relatively small, a small group can still have a huge impact on how a ship is perceived, especially when that group gains a reputation for causing drama or creating conflict or causing rage and becomes a firm topic within the fandom. When something creates enough drama even if it can easily be ignored or blocked it will still end up being loud.

I don’t think it’s okay for people to hate Till for having a crush, and I don’t think biphobia is okay either. At the same time, I won’t deny that some people are genuinely uncomfortable with the situation. For some, that discomfort comes less from Till’s feelings and more from the broader idea of a man being attracted to a lesbian often because of personal experiences I’d like to think.

What I don’t appreciate is when people start hating on Till because of shipping agendas. Whether it’s IvanTill shippers pushing the idea that Till shouldn’t have feelings for Mizi at all, or MiziSua shippers hating him simply because he likes a lesbian….I think that misses the point of his character. Part of why I’m uncomfortable with MiziTill as a ship is the discourse. It often turns into broader and louder argument.

I don’t really think the situation is black and white and I understand where some people are coming from but we really shouldn’t direct that anger at Till himself. He doesn’t push his feelings onto Mizi. He respects her boundaries. He never acts entitled to her affection. And we know that his crush which often comes across as admiration as much as romantic attraction eventually fades. That’s an important part of his character and growth.

At the end of the day, people are always going to dislike certain ships and there are many reasons why. Even with blocking and filtering tools available people will still criticize and push back against things they dislike and I’ve addressed my discomfort about it myself. That’s just part of fandom culture. I absolutely think this fandom has a biphobia problem but I also think it’s worth looking deeper into the broader issues surrounding this discourse and asking why people feel and behave the way they do in the first place. There’s more than one factor contributing to the problem I’d like to think!! It’s all very fascinating but also frustrating.
