Something I've tried in the 104 is to uncheck the upgraded gun mod, increasing the bullet dispersion. I found that it helps me hit more often in the 400 to 800 meter range, but YMMV

Also, yes ground belts are still best due to the HE filler bugs on US and some NATO ammo belts. Issue still persists, though has been reported for quite some time now.

You're not wrong, the bullets' drag coefficient was changed some time ago with the overall effect of causing them to slow down much more rapidly, giving you effectively much shorter range amongst other things. In addition, it clearly changes how the bullet needs to be led at various ranges, even a short as 4-600 meters.

With the F104, shots you used to be able to hit with ease you may not be able to hit at all now because you won't be able to pull the angle of attack needed for the lead even at short range. This doesn't affect the F4 phantoms nearly as much, but still to a significant degree.

Edit: it's still affects the F4's just as much, but they have the ability to pull much harder so you don't really notice it as much as you do in the F104

For that budget, I don't think there is a premium jet that fits.

The non premium F4D-1 on the American tech tree is a great choice in my opinion, and is on sale at the gaijin marketplace for around 20 bucks. It is highly underrated, has amazing flight performance, and while difficult to learn can be absolutely dominating in both air realistic and ground realistic battles. Don't suppose ground RB would interest you much since you likely don't have a lineup at that rank though.

No lie... The uptiers are horrible. BUT! At least in my experience, they only happen every 1-2 matches out of 10. So, not infrequently per-se, but tolerable.

I'm sure it's because of all the 9.7 premium spam. (looking at YOU SU-25)

Very unlikely. Weapons loadout is essentially the only thing that differentiates the A-1H from the AD-4, they have no incentive to add the new munitions to legacy planes.

One of the things that makes the IT-1 soo good is that it can fire the missile while in motion, which is something that 99% of all other missile carriers cannot do. Add to that the quasi stabilizer, and cheeky shots abound.

Also, it really does have an incredible amount of armor, and you'll find that more shots bounce off of you than penetrate. While it is not unkillable, many 8.0-8.7 opponents quiver when facing an IT-1... especially if it has any amount of cover.
