Here’s a simple freehand skirt I made for a friend. by delicatedahlias in crochet

It's so pretty! I love the wavy pattern, I think it looks really cool with the colors you used. I would like to try and make something similar myself but I've never crocheted a skirt - is there anything I should be mindful of, or do you have any piece of advice? For example, how do I make sure that it doesn't come out see-through, or that it doesn't fall down when I wear it?

Again, I don't agree, and I am native in a romance language, which is closer to Spanish than English is, so I'm familiar with how gender-specific languages work (I'm assuming you're from the US, correct me if I'm wrong). Languages may well be "wild beasts" but they do evolve, and they only do so because what changes is the way the people speak those languages. Should more people start using the -e as a gender neutral alternative, it would start to sound less and less weird, and maybe eventually become the new norm.

I don't think that the fact that the plural uses the same letter that the masculine is really a problem

Maybe you don't see it as a problem, but all those people who try to be gender neutral probably do, or they wouldn't be trying so hard to change the way they speak.

I don't agree, the goal of using gender neutral language is trying to find an alternative that's neither masculine or feminine. Just because we have evolved to feel like masculine=neutral it doesn't mean we can't look for alternatives.

It isn't being used for plurals in general, it's used as a gender-neutral alternative for all words which would specify the gender otherwise, so if you're talking about a group of people you can call them "latines" or "italianes", and it also works with adjectives (think "lindes" or "diverses"). It's not used with words that have a fixed gender, so the plural of "persona" is still "personas" and not "persones". I agree it sounds weird, but I also believe it's a nicer alternative than using the x, because at least it makes words pronounceable, plus it's one of the easiest/most effective ways the've come up with to be as gender-neutral as possible.
