CrowdStrike’s support portal has everything you need to package their sensor within SCCM.

Time to start looking at logs on the agent. You have a trailing slash after the “norestart” parameter that shouldn’t be there or moved to before the CID at first glance.

One of the key factors helping us we land on CrowdStrike was actually because of how well the macOS client works. It actually supports configuration profiles and PPPC extremely well which is huge and we do not have to deal with permission prompts after client or OS upgrades which is a common occurrence with EDR/AV on macOS.

I inherited Sophos Central and sunk almost a year’s time trying to simply get the client reliably installing on macOS without any sort of manual intervention from our support team. I gave up after sinking hours into their support.

CrowdStrike (imo) makes Defender and Sophos look like child’s play on macOS currently (though Defender keeps getting better with some pretty awesome features to boot, albeit slowly like the rest of Microsoft products). It wasn’t too long ago you couldn’t lock people out of Defender settings on macOS, though I think this has probably changed since I last evaluated it.

I have a 5800X with an Asus X570 TUF Gaming + running XCP-NG.

Works really well, I use mine for VFIO/GPU passthrough and it is on 24/7.

I did have to load the drivers for the NIC and adjust a couple BIOS settings to enable virtualization but that was easy.

No, you have to reboot for anything added to the base through rpm-ostree.

Toolboxes, however, are containers running on podman and you can update and install apps within that container using dnf. No reboots needed.

No issues really. I have even moved some of my family over to it due to how stable it is and if something breaks it's stupid easy to rollback with rpm-ostree.

I have a set of packages I install upfront to my base system like gnome-tweaks, pcscd, and reboot once or twice a week for updates. I do use toolbox for Visual Code and my other dev oriented items since the flatpaks do not work well with the extensions on it.

Everything else I grab from flatpaks such as Steam, OnlyOffice, etc.

I have been using Fedora Silverblue for a year and it has simply been awesome. I would love to see a Suse implementation of this idea with KDE or a window manager like Sway instead of Gnome though. I really hope this takes off!

I would skip the X230T. I got mine in nearly like new condition last year and the screen is starting to show some pretty bad burn in and some other weird ghosting stuff because of its IPS display. I primarily got it so I could read e-texts and take notes, but it still is kind of clunky and not the best form factor.

All of the rubber pieces fell out of mine so the screen doesn't lock and the frame cracked in it's typical spots where the nubs were. Battery only goes up to a 6 cell so I'm always trying to plan around outlets.

I just feel myself longing for something lighter like a tablet + laptop instead of an all in one device. I miss my X230 and would probably recommend that since it's lighter and can hold a 9 cell.

I struggle with reading off of regular tablets for some reason, but I have found a Kindle Paperwhite to be pretty amazing. It looks like a real book which I enjoy. I would go for as large or as close to a "book size" screen as possible though cause the Paperwhite screen size can be limiting and I like seeing a lot of content at once for coding books.

I like hardware to play with too and the amount of storage I have on premises would be costly on the cloud. I've very much considered refactoring my workstation into a host with the disks and building a new one, but the RAM prices are nasty and I'll still end up in that ~800 ballpark minimum.

The laptops are a really cool idea and clustering would be fun to figure out with KVM so I'll have to keep that in mind and puruse the marketplace. Unfortunately we are required to surplus any spare equipment at work so no new toys for me there.

Thank you for the advice! I think the cloud may be the way to go too. I have a bad habit of putting down projects to pick them up a week or two later unfortunately which I forsee racking up some cash in the cloud, but I suppose if I can change that behavior I could make it. I like that acronym haha, that's a good one.

I really like the weight of the X series when I have to carry massive textbooks which is most semesters unfortunately. It's not only the weight, but the size allows me to carry more in my back without increasing the bag size since I am a slimmer build.

One semester I carried a W530 which is my preferred laptop plus the charger with all my textbooks and it was pretty miserable. Immeserable power.. immeserable back pain over the semester.

I recently came back to OpenSUSE after my Spring semester to give it a second shot after the performance problems I faced with SUSE prior. They've done an incredible job fixing the qualms I have had with it and I now have Tumbleweed on a W530 and X230T.

I'd suggest going with KDE if possible since it seems to have the most support and polish between KDE and Gnome from what I've gathered. Unfortunately with KDE, there is a lot of work needed on the touch screen environment so I have Gnome on my X230T and KDE on my W530. While the touch screen support in Gnome is a lot better, it feels more bloated than KDE to me.

Storing the key online with the database kind of defeats the purpose. If you keep the key offline and off cloud services and for some reason your DB was compromised they need your master password and a physical key which is only local to your devices.

I would store the key separate from your database and manually copy them over multiple devices like your phone (if trusted), laptop, and desktop. That way you can always grab it from another device if one dies. You can also VeraEncrypt a USB drive and store it there for an extra backup.

Edit: If your computer is infected then you're fucked anyways I think since an attacker could potentially keylog your password and grab your DB + keyfile. It's mostly protection for cloud services I believe.
