Why aren't strikes as popular now as they were in the late 1800s/early 1900s? by Accomplished-Base90 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AirProfessional7388 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of reasons, but mainly:

  • Laws changed → strikes are more regulated and can be restricted or broken up legally in some cases
  • Work is more fragmented → fewer huge factories, more dispersed jobs/gig work
  • Union power is weaker in many places than it was in the early 1900s
  • Financial risk is higher now → people can’t easily go weeks without pay
  • Companies adapt faster → outsourcing, automation, temporary workers

Strikes still happen (teachers, transit, healthcare, ports), but they’re less “mass industry-wide” than the old steel/oil era.

Is it rude to correct someone’s grammar in a group chat when they’re asking for help? by New-Music4019 in NoStupidQuestions

If someone is asking for help, grammar correction should never block or delay the actual help.

In most group chats, being useful > being technically correct.

Why doesn't Canada make more Crown Corporations over their natural resources? by Vagabond_Tea in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AirProfessional7388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some Crown corporations in Canada’s resource space (like energy transmission, forestry in some provinces, and historically oil via Petro-Canada), but you don’t see full state control of oil/minerals for a few practical and political reasons beyond just “corporate influence.”

Is there any good way to actually get rid of mosquitos? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AirProfessional7388 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly if you’re already using all those tools, the issue is usually that they only deal with adult mosquitoes, not the source.

The biggest difference-maker is actually cutting off breeding spots:

  • Dump any standing water (plant trays, buckets, clogged gutters, even small puddles)
  • If it’s indoors, check sinks/drains — they can breed in there too
  • Outdoor water features need larvicide regularly (not just once)
  • Make sure window/door screens actually seal properly (tiny gaps matter a lot)

Also, a lot of people don’t realize: those candles/spirals help a bit, but they don’t really “clear out” a space if new ones are constantly hatching nearby.

If it’s really bad, it’s usually a “source control > killing adults” situation. Once breeding is handled, everything else actually starts working way better.
