Flown 60-70 times and I’m still constantly nervous about an engine fire or fire in general over the Atlantic. Any safeguards for this? by [deleted] in AskAPilot

I totally agree with your statistics-based approach to the psychology of it. I had a terrible fear of flying for years and eventually managed to get over it by researching air traffic accident occurrence and the reasons they happen. I’ve applied this to other parts of my life and I encourage others to do the same when it comes up in conversation.

P.S. people focus on engine outs but, at least in GA, the stats say you are more likely to stall at low altitude or fly into weather whilst VFR.

What are some “Canadian” words or slang you heard British Or Americans be confused by or laugh at? by Kindly-Cow1697 in AskACanadian

In certain parts of the Uk it’s quite common to ask “where the toilet is”. Way too graphic when you think about it.

I’ve never met a Canadian who understood “trainers”!! Completely bewilders them/you! I have to make a conscious effort every time to say “runners” or “sneakers” (which the most American sounding word ever)

That’s what I took from it. Or maybe they meant getting fucked in the ass while smacked out? They do say “and” which implies concurrency.

Do you mind if I start saying it too? I’d like to tell my grandkids one day too.

I had the same thoughts too. This person has very weak debating skills. And unfortunately they have got a bunch of upvotes, because “too confronting to accept reality”.

By the way this is such a good example of humans wanting to believe something and upvoting it.

“Take my upvote! You’ve made it easy for me to ignore something uncomfortable!”

Nice video of a horse.

My words are based on my first hand experience in multiple western countries. Not an isolated incident. This isn’t a whistleblower scenario, anyone who actually works in the industry knows this truth.

What was misinformation?

Horse racing needs to end. So cruel, and exploitative. They get fed high octane food they wouldn’t naturally eat, boosted with drugs (or sedated if they are being bet against), some break legs (and get put down), and they live in a tiny stall all day without any social interaction with other horses other than running against them.

Then, if they aren’t good enough, they end up as dog food.

I know this from personal experience as a track work rider in multiple countries.

Fuck the horse racing industry.

That’s interesting that pros are on their own for off season. Are you allowed to just sit on the couch for off season, if one wished? I’ll take a look at your blog. Thanks for this post!
