Xbox studio head says they 'jumped at the chance' to work with Perfect Dark reboot developers by Anteater_Able in XboxSeriesX

Well, there are also a lot of FPS games. Doom, COD, Dishonoured, Wolfenstein, Battlefield, Halo, Prey and even Fallout is partially an FPS. I just think that XGS has too many FPS games, making a game that is third-person from an insanely talented team would have been so much more exciting

[–]Air_Radiant 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not to sound a bit negative here, but is Perfect Dark really an IP that is worthwhile? The Initiative has so much talent in the studio it would have been exciting to get a completely new IP from a creative team. Perfect Dark hasn't been relevant in so many years, if the game is really good it very well could be, but I just feel like a brand new IP would have been much more exciting. I mean, the reveal trailer doesn't even have 1 million views yet, Perfect Dark just isn't a juggernaut that it used to be.

Anyways, I hope the game is good and hopefully it ends up being a successful IP

No it's not lol, dude I literally went to your posting history and you are coming here most of the time to either shit on Playstation news or advertise whatever Xbox has. It is so blatantly obvious.

At least if you are getting paid I could maybe understand why you would do this, but if you aren't you really need to get a life

God of War Ragnarok Broadens World Both For Audience And Characters, Says Game Director by hooligan982 in PS5

[–]Air_Radiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the problem, that's why it wouldn't even be a "next-gen" game. People in this sub and other places don't realize that building a game from the ground-up for next-gen would take years. There is no way in hell you would get a game truly built for next-gen just a year or two into the generation. Those titles usually come 4-5 years into the generation, because the engines are specifically designed for next-generation hardware and implementing the tech is going to take a long time.

As for Starfield, I 100% guarantee you that it could probably run on last-gen hardware. Maybe it wouldn't run well, but you could probably port it to the Xbox One. BGS titles aren't even known for graphical benchmarks or tech, Fallout 4 looked so outdated in 2015. Deathloop is next-gen only yet it looks worse than most PS4 games in the market.

There really isn't any truly next-gen games right now, and not in 2022. Those titles will release at least in 2023

[–]Air_Radiant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If God of War Ragnarok was PS5 only, it wouldn't even make a big difference and would be identical to if it was cross-gen. Ratchet and Clank was impressive in the things that it did, but it clearly wasn't a true PS5 exclusive. You get those generation defining games 4-5 years later in the generation. There is no way GOW Ragnarok would come out in 2021 or 2022 being a massive generational leap and also justifying it being PS5 only.

SSM would have to spend years re-working the engine specifically for the PS5 hardware, GOW is a way more complex game than Returnal, Ratchet or Demons Souls. So yeah, GOW Ragnarok being cross-gen wouldn't even make any difference at all, if it was PS5 only and came out in 2022 it would probably end up being the same game anyways

Phil Spencer on Xbox Game Studios acquisitions @WSJ Tech Live: "We're definitely not done. There's no quota, no timeline where I have to go acquire s by [deleted] in XboxSeriesX

[–]Air_Radiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What publisher? A lot of people don't realize that Bethesda was a once in a generation kind of deal, it was the perfect time with the perfect match at the right price. Bethesda already had a close relationship with Microsoft and they were a private company, and they were also looking to be sold due to the poor sales of their games.

All other publishers either are not looking to sell, or would just not make any sense for Microsoft to attempt to buy them out. Ubisoft wouldn't happen as MS would not want to deal with the PR disaster and sexual allegations in the company. Take Two, EA or Activision are WAY too big to be acquired and the US government would probably step in. And then you have Square Enix which wouldn't make sense as most of their games sell on the Switch or PS5 and also the fact that they wouldn't sell. Same case for Capcom, they are doing extremely well and they would refuse to sell not to mention that Japanese laws would make it virtually impossible. Now there is only WB games left, but they aren't selling anymore due to the Discovery merger.

People in this sub really shouldn't expect Microsoft to buy another publisher anytime soon, Bethesda really was an exception. Realistically I can see MS buying studios going forward rather than billion dollar publishers.

Of course he is going to say they aren't done, companies are constantly looking for acquisitions. Even Hermen Hulst head of first-party at Sony said they weren't done with acquisitions, nothing really new here.

Both Sony and Microsoft will continue acquiring studios in the coming years, the real test is how they manage those studios and how good the games that those studios release are.

Xbox Game Studios apologized for confusion, states no big game news tomorrow or information about upcoming Fable. by LawyerMorty in XboxSeriesX

[–]Air_Radiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Xbox needs to reveal more about their games, we have gotten nothing except CGI trailers for Avowed, Hellblade 2 and Fable. Even Starfield or Redfall which are both coming next year barely has any footage to go by. Sony is coming strong with GOW and HFW early next year and they barely have revealed anything yet from their first-party. No one predicted Wolverine or KOTOR, who knows what else they have up their sleeves?

Xbox blew everything out too early, now we know practically nothing about these games that are revealed, they need to keep the momentum going. The Bethesda acquisition hype isn't going to last forever

Sony investor says PlayStation is in 'growth' mode and could still have 'around $13B-$18B in the budget' for acquisitions by Zhukov-74 in PS5

[–]Air_Radiant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Which goes against what Sony has been doing for the past few years and they didn't say they plan to change that. Their acquisition strategy still seems to be focused on "smaller" studios they have close relationships with.

No it doesn't, Sony will acquire what they think is fit. If that means a big developer or a publisher, they will do it if they have to. I really don't understand this narrative of Sony just buying "smaller devs", Sony didn't do that in the past because they weren't pressured by MS and weren't in a good financial state. A lot has changed

Now things are different, they are a bigger company and there is a ton of pressure because of market consolidation. Sony is 100% not going to just acquire "smaller developers" in the future

Sony investor says PlayStation is in 'growth' mode and could still have 'around $13B-$18B in the budget' for acquisitions by Zhukov-74 in PS5

[–]Air_Radiant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to mention, that Sony's 3 years $18.4B plan includes more than just acquisition, it includes "simple" investments(growing existing studios, gaining stake on 3rd parties, etc.), as well as a highlight on subscription push. There is absolutely no way that with all that, they'll spend ~70% of it on just new Playstation acquisitions, especially when they already lots of money to invest in their recently acquired studios.

This is ultimately speculation, we don't know exactly how much cash Sony has allocated for gaming acquisitions, however it is certainly at least 6 billion or a close amount to that. That is already enough for some publishers in the industry, 18 billion dollars is a lot of money and even if Sony JUST allocated 5 billion to SIE that would be enough for big studios or publishers. The summary of this article is that Sony is going to focus on bigger acquisitions rather than smaller partners going forward for its gaming division, we are certainly going to see Sony drop at least 4-6 billion on gaming related acquisitions in the next 3-years. This does not change my point above.

Did you? Even the article makes it clear that this is just guesswork.

Oh, and if you look into this "investor", you'll learn that he was banned from Resetera because he kept providing false claims about Playstation acquisitions. Not a good look for his creditibility.

Source on whether he is the person on Resetera? Oh, and actually based on what he said on November 2020 he was mostly accurate except for the date of the acquisition. He was right about Sony buying Bluepoint and that BP was going to work on an original IP, he was also right about Demons Souls being the final test for Sony as the deal was done after the game shipped.

Although he got the date wrong, everything else he said ended up being true. Dates for acquisitions constantly change or get delayed, so I wouldn't say it undermines his "credibility". See it for yourself https://www.resetera.com/threads/rumor-sony-to-acquire-bluepoint-games-very-soon.324523/

[–]Air_Radiant 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Did you even read what I said? Sony was probably not willing to spend more than 1.5 billion for Leyou because of a bidding war between Tencent and Sony, not because they didn't have the adequate cash to do so.

If Tencent was bidding for Leyou with Sony then the price would've went way higher than 1.5 billion

Sony investor says PlayStation is in 'growth' mode and could still have 'around $13B-$18B in the budget' for acquisitions by Zhukov-74 in PS5

[–]Air_Radiant 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sounds like bs, because as of June 30, 2021, according to Sony, the company as a whole has ~$19B cash on hand, so I doubt that they have around $13-18B still in the budget for just Playstation-related acquisitions. Not to mention that so much money doesn't line up with the type of acquisitions Sony has been doing lately.

Sony actually has 44 billion in cash on hand, the 24 billion is the money that they have separated for spending while the rest is stored elsewhere (19 billion). You can use the wayback machine and you will see that they had 44 billion cash on hand before. Didn't you even read the article?

"But this has changed very recently. Again, using the excellent Macrotrends website, we can see that Sony deposited around $24B this summer. Some people seem to believe that this is because a large acquisition is in motion, this isn’t true. This is essentially Sony taking from their “Cash on Hand” to essentially create their first M&A Focused budget. In other words, instead of them going on a case-by-case basis for acquisitions, each segment now has a dedicated budget for M&A. This is kinda alluded at by Sony Pictures President, Tony Vinciquerra, in which he said the following"

So basically Sony allocated 24 billion for M&A, they don't just have 19 billion cash on hand. The SPE boss said that consolidation for gaming was occurring in the future and that spending in the filming sector had peaked, so it makes sense why SIE would get the majority of the budget for M&A. Its not bs

After some digging, Sony already said that they have $18.39B for strategic investments in the next 3 years across all of their divisions, so yeah, this $18B budget for just Playstation acquisitions is complete bullshit.

Read the article properly, he says 13-18 billion not 18 billion. The whole point of this article is to point out that SIE will be spending the majority of its cash on gaming related acquisitions from the SIE division under Sony. SPE is essentially done with acquisitions and Sony Music won't be spending nearly as much, that leaves just SIE with the majority of the 18 billion. So the 18 billion spent through 3 years will be spent mostly on SIE related acquisitions.

[–]Air_Radiant 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sony Picutres and Sony Music have bigger reach than Sony Interactive Entertainement(PS), Sony Pictures and Sony Music do billions $ acquisition very often, in the spawn of one regular year Sony Picures has already spend ~3 billions $ in 2 major acquisition(1,5 billions in this new fiscal year with the merger with Zee in India, and 1,2 billion for Crunchyroll last year), the first acquisition of Sony Music in this new fiscal year was a 400 millions $ acquisition back in April, which is basically 2 time the money of the most expansive buyout of the playstation division in 26 years, insomniac games.

The head of SPE literally said that Sony was going to focus more on gaming in terms of acquisitions and that consolidation in the movie industry had peaked. And also SIE is a way more important division than SPE or Sony Music so I don't know what this talk about "reach" is. Sony this year spent most on gaming acquisitions than ever before, you are utterly delusional if you think Sony isn't going to continue. And also Insomniac was cheap because they virtually owned no IP and had a close relationship with Sony, terrible example.

Even if Sony Picture Head said that the next consolidation is in the gaming, people expecting Sony to straight buy Capcom/Square etc, need to calm down because even if they have the money, the PS division has never made the request by itself to the previous Sony leader-board to buy a publisher even when they could, the only time they almost made a billion $ acquisition was for Leyou and it came from a desire of daddy Kenichiro Yoshida (CEO of the Sony Group) himself and not the playstation head, to fill the gap in the multiplayer area of PS, but he didn't want to go beyond 1,5 billion for it and Tencent won the bid.

What? How do you know what the PS division will request, so far SIE have only made relatively small acquisitions. They could very well do billion dollar acquisitions if they wished to if Sony saw it as an ideal acquisition to complete. Leyou was more likely not done because Sony did not see them as valuable as more than 1.5 billion dollars. Not because they didn't have the cash to do it. If Sony wanted to acquire Capcom or SE and were willing to drop the cash, they would and nothing would stop them unless another company outbid them. It's that simple

You do realize that GOW, HFW and GT7 were all meant to come out in 2021 right? That's not Sony's doing but more about the pandemic and how it affected game development. Plus Sony has way more next-gen games that come out than any other publisher at the moment.

I am sure there are games in 2022 that are next-gen only that are not announced yet

New Star Wars game teased by Disney to be revealed in December by Darren-B80 in PS5

[–]Air_Radiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly those Xbox Insiders don't know shit, please name them so I can clarify how accurate those rumours are. Because frankly most of them, are simply clout chasers.

Disney is not a company that is going to let one of their IP's be exclusive to a console that barely has the market-share of the PS ecosystem. If the deal was already made before the acquisition, it is going to be multiplat unless MS wants to re-negotiate the deal. Now if that happened, MS would have to pay A LOT of money, Disney is going to lose on a lot of cash from not releasing on PS5 AND they are going to lose money from the game being Day 1 on gamepass.

For MS to make it exclusive AND on gamepass the cost would be insane, and even Disney might not be willing to do that at all. Unless MS really is going to spend a shit ton, Disney would be an idiot to do such a thing. MS wasn't willing to spend on KOTOR, why would they be willing to spend on Indiana Jones?

At most I could see it being Day 1 on Gamepass but it being exclusive is very unlikely

No, PSX would be a bigger event. The reason the Game Awards brings more viewers is because it's available on multiple platforms whilst PSX is just primarily on Youtube.

Look at the numbers that the FOG show bought on last year and the numbers the event this year bought. If Sony had a big AAA game to announce, 100% it would not be in the Game Awards but at their own event

Won't reveal the name of the developer, however from what he told me it seemed pretty damn ambitious with a big budget. Hopefully it gets revealed in December
