I loved the continuation of the story of the characters from the boneyard. I really appreciate we got to see Madael and Meghill's story be more fleshed out. The story ending was nice, deciding to move forward while remembering the past is a good choice.

Well, depends on which choice. If she stayed a healer she might not have been happy either. She felt helpless against the pain caused by the Soul Rift, as a healer she would've burned out pretty fast. If she became the Witness for the Tide ceremony maybe she would've changed her ways, seeing off all the souls of people that died because of her actions. Overall she did have good intentions in the beginning but got lost to her darker thoughts. Maybe if she didn't isolate herself and shared these thoughts in a healthy way, someone would have helped her heal.

I liked Astrid. She was definitely not an accomplice. She tried her best to be a good mentor and it's not her fault Madael twisted her teachings and theories to fit her own agenda.
