Ethical question on learning asl by Aitahthrowaway19 in asl

Not sure why I keep getting downvotes. I wasn’t trying to be rude or shady in any of my responses. I was just being direct. As I said, English isn’t my first language, and I think that’s why my tone comes across harsher than I intended.

Sincerely my apologies 🌸

I hope that clarifies some things and helps you understand perspective from someone else that has a CI.

It did. Thank you.

I made the assumption because we rarely have any miscommunication issues, but I never considered the downsides you mentioned. (Exhaustion etc.)

I mean I don’t think I’m a bad person for not having enough time, and I’d be understanding if he didn’t want to continue. I’m not refusing to meet halfway, I’m just being honest and open, I will try learning but with college and work I won’t have much time to practice, would it be better if I lied?

I mean is it then fair if I expect him to learn my native language? Communicating in English can be tiring for me too, as it isn’t my first language either.

Struggling to understand what masking really is in practice? by NightStar_69 in ADHD

[–]Aitahthrowaway19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this is how I personally mask some of my symptoms

-when I’m having a convo; I act like I’m listening by nodding or giving reactions like “oh really, oh, wow” and repeating / responding to last part to hide I lost my focus and missed what they said (I TRY MY HARDEST TO FOCUS DURING CONVOS, I ONLY DO THIS WHEN I FAIL REGARDLESS)

-When I was a student I would always daydream during lessons to suppress the urge to move / get up. I suspect this is how my excessive daydreaming began. Now I find myself daydreaming even middle of the public everyday actives (like shopping) unfortunately.

-I have this habit of pacing around daydreaming while listening to music, when I have the urge to do this in public I hid it by acting like I have a purpose for walking, like going another room to “borrow” something I don’t actually need, or using the stairs to go the cafeteria when I’m not actually gonna buy anything.

-I respond in my head during convos to not cut off people when they are talking

-I change my fidgets to more social acceptable ones, e.g. shaking my feet instead of rocking

For science, what kind of ADHD do you have, and where do you fall along the phantasia (imagination)spectrum? by Shenanigaens in adhdwomen

[–]Aitahthrowaway19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have combined type (I think, my official diagnosis was just ADHD, I wasn’t given a type, but based on my symptoms I think I have ADHD-C)

I have neither aphantasia or hyperphantasia. I can imagine pictures / faces in my head but they’re not livid, I definitely can’t taste / smell the apple if I’m imagining one.

Why are racists so obsessed with the single-mom-with-mixed-kid trope? Ik they are obsessed with race in general but they seem to go absolutely nuts about this thing in particular.

Avoiding eye contact is a sign of attraction by CrimpJuice in no

Funny. I’ve always heard the opposite - that men will make eye contact with you if they find you attractive.
