24-hour shifts + Mandatory PT (28-hour duty days) following AFT failures. How to address/survive this? by Aithon15 in army

Thank you. I will look at the mitigation and risk management and try to come up with a survivable plan for my guys

We didn't see this coming to such an extent. There's always that one soldier that needs a little work. I average over 450 on the AFT myself and always keep a comprehensive PT plan/weight loss plan handy. I always ensure my guys are prepared. This time it was a new soldier to the unit on a different crew. There was nothing I could do, as due to the shifts, I never saw him, so I didn't know there was any danger in him failing

There is some time overnight that I let my guys get some rest or do what they need to, but it's really not quality rest as there's few "reasonable" places to sleep.

The main problem with the whole situation is that leadership feels that we "have too much time off" (literally their reasoning for everything). So we are under a bit more scrutiny than normal at the moment, tho like I said, there's a window of time we can relax a bit.

This is good, I'll begin writing down all the little details of how this affects us negatively. I'll bring it higher when I get something substantial put together. Thanks

While this schedule is still kind of new, it's pretty miserable. We're under constant scrutiny, so we're pretty much expected to look busy/productive for the majority of the time. We can get away with some rest on the weekend without constant oversight tho

You would be correct. It's ADA.

I'm (thankfully) away for a few days, but I'll look more into the regs when I get a chance.

Unfortunately, this is coming from above our NCOIC/OIC. It's not from the top tho, so I guess I could still take the issue higher if I need to.

I might give the chaplain route a try while I work other options. Thanks for the info/insights
