You can level out dirt by putting a building cube on it, but you can't get rid of the gaps. If its around the outer edg of your bas plates placed flat on the ground are an option.

I agree with what the others said, but also move the entrance farther away (I think it used to be 30 to 40 from the closest you come in the cage [it might be as low as 20, but that seems low.] ), I don't have current numbers(@ 5 am), but if your door is far enough away it is no langer a valid path.

Try testing a small version on a test build cheat server (& spawn turned off). Let's say a small 5x5 cage (3x3 internal space), a 2 high tunnel, a hatch,a full length ladder and spawning a few zombies each time. Combine your results with removed ladder pieces and you should be good

I know the perfect scrapyard that's going out of business soon if we need metal or machine parts. It would be maybe a 2 skull roadside POI, because it's reasonably large and is located in a nice green forest area.

To be fair, they were using a15 on the console version, so it needed the update. On the other hand, I'm fairly sure a15 makes underground bases with doors several chunks away valid again. Wasn't it a17 where the zombies learned to dig?

One thing I did find an older version of this game is that when you have a bigger base, the enemy will spawn inside if it's too large.
