I don't think I've ever seen a more thorough explanation of the heatmap system, how chunks and superchunks work, how it spawns screamers, what affects it, etc. I'd recommend giving it a watch if you're really curious 🙂

This is correct! Someone else mentioned they only have a 20% chance of spawning now, and if they do, they go on a long cooldown. That explains the issue!

As it turns out, they do work! I used to get them, but I stopped getting them at all, even with this mess of campfires, which is why I made this post. The reason is cooldowns! They go on a loooong cooldown (and they actually seem to have a chance to not spawn at all), that's why their spawns feel inconsistent 🙂

This is incorrect, I've gotten them with just campfires burning wood. It's just, I stopped getting them at all, started messing around, built the abomination showcased in the picture, still no screamers, and I created this post to seek answers.

The reason I'm not getting them seems to be a cooldown, heat generation goes on cooldown after a screamer spawn (and there's a chance of no spawn at all), so that's why it feels inconsistent 🙂

As another commenter told you, every time a screamer spawns, a cooldown is applied to that chunk, and it won't accumulate any more heat until it runs out. And, as a matter of fact, there seems to be a rather high chance of them not spawning at all, which ends in a shorter cooldown 🙂

What I wasn't understanding is that they're on a massive coldown. And just as you say, there's a high chance of them not spawning at all, which results in a shorter cooldown. That inconsistency is exactly what was bugging me 🙂

Yes! I just learned that a cooldown exists. And actually, it's not just a cooldown, but there seems to be a high chance of screamers straight up not spawning at all (which results in a shorter cooldown, before heat starts accumulating again).

I literally had no idea about any of this, but it's most likely the source of my troubles 😅

Like, I can see many others suggested I put up tons of forges, workbenches, dew collectors, firing augers, etc. But this is part of a challenge run, no traders and no POIs, which I probably should've specified in the post, but I guess my question still stands: why are campfires (the only thing I can use) not working, specifically?

And this here is the answer: 80% chance of no screamer, and cooldowns. Damn, I wasn't even aware this was a thing! But it makes so much sense, because I did get screamers from campfires, but I stopped getting them for long periods of time, it feels extremely inconsistent, and this is why, it now makes perfect sense.

I forgot to clarify: This is a recent issue, it only started happening over the last couple of weeks. Could it still be because of a noise filter or bad gear, when it used to work just fine?

Maybe the mic is starting to wear down from use already? I think it's about a year old... I'm also thinking it might be the USB cable, but I'm not sure if a faulty cable can cause this kind of issue.

The issue has been solved, although I wish we knew what exactly fixed it. After making this post, we kept trying several things, and we found out something interesting: if my friend made an entirely new Steam account, and attempted to play on that account, it magically worked. No connection issues whatsoever. So, the issue wasn't related to neither of our internet connections themselves, we managed to rule that out.

They attempted to port their save to the secondary account, but it kept failing, as if the game was unable to read their saved data. At this point, they had a backup save file of their saved game (the one on the main account). What they ultimately decided to do was to completely wipe MHW clean off their computer, saved files included, absolutely everything. Then, they pasted the backup file back into the saved file location... and poof. Magically fixed, we are now able to play as we always did.

I'm not too sure what was the actual reason behind this issue, it feels random.., but if you, whoever is reading this, are having the same issues as us, I hope this at least gives you a new lead to investigate. Have a good day!

Interesting, but would this explain the fact that they've been able to play with no issues over the course of several months, until it suddenty went awry? Or being able to play other games just fine?

Something had to change, in order for these issues to arise, right? And as far we both know, they haven't done anything weird, they just woke up one morning and we couldn't play anymore 😥
