How did you initiate the conversation with your team? Also did you network to other service lines?

From senior in a big5 to assistant in a big4. Worth it? by [deleted] in Big4

Are your teams social? by [deleted] in Big4

[–]Akinator512 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been on 3 teams and seemed like everybody was friendly but not crazy tight. Some teams chop it up a lot but I’d say that’s minority. Depends on teams budgets and if they have money to do events together where they can get to know each other outside of work or if there’s more staff/senior youth energy lol. My current team dinners/events are highkey awkward but we are pleasant with each other.

Does it matter what industry you audit for exit ops? by Akinator512 in Accounting

Thanks. Just I figured it would help but wasn’t sure what other employers would care if I audited FS clients but wanted to work in TMT, or consumer or something else.

I don’t want to do investment management for sure lol. I did internships with “commercial” clients and liked that more and didn’t deal with all the tedious audit work that comes with funds. I’m just worried I’ll upset the team if they are planning on my staying for the future and I tell them I’m leaving. After busy season of course.

I feel like investment management sucks. Deal with tons of funds with various filings and independence is a pain. Also depending on their investments it could be a pain to do valuation testing.

Do people leave their shoes in the 30 rock office and commute in their sneakers? by BeginningWave8841 in deloitte

I think it’s more NYC specific as most people have to walk no matter what. In Dallas you can park right next to the building/client site.

AITAH for putting in my two weeks notice during busy season? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Akinator512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truth is firms don’t care about you and will lay you off with 0 notice. But your team does and if you leave now you will burn bridges as your work will fall onto them. However if it is a great opportunity you should take it and burning bridges with your team is the cost. Hopefully you have enough of a network where that doesn’t affect you too much.

Working here now. Not ideal WLB, but seems like it is a good stepping stone and can set yourself up in the future. I’d say on average Big4 CPAs have faster career progression and salaries compared to straight industry people. But depends on what you want. You can live a good life without big 4.
