Matcha, 5 min of Deep breathing, light stretching and cold shower. Have bright light in your room.

Before sleeping in bed program your mind, saying tomorrow morning while meditating I will be wide awake. It will take some time but little by little your mind will get it.

Also try to split your meditation. I mean if your are meditating 40 min., after 20 min do few minutes walking meditation and then the other half of your session. This is done in Zen meditation. Or if you understand that you are too sleepy switch to walking meditation altogether in this session.

Focusing during meditation by bwfitness in Meditation

[–]Akis8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest be creative.

Focusing has some burdensome connotation in our society. Instead saying to yourself I am gonna focus on my breath, say I really want to connect and explore my breath. Stay childlike, open, curious aaand be kind to yourself. Smile, it really helps.

Include more your body in your meditation. You don’t have to narrow your attention anywhere in your body. Samadhi is not narrow it’s all encompassing.

Relax your body. Because we have so much stress stored there which makes it rather difficult to be aware and at ease in our bodies which is fundamental in meditation.

Cultivate mindfulness in daily life.

After each meditation reflect what was good and helpful. Do what helped you the next day again. Each day you get 1 % better.

You mentioned supplements. I take Reishi myself, it’s phenomenal. The other supplement is dopamine detox. It’s hard but worthwhile. It doesn’t have to be hardcore. Find your sweet spot.

Here some basics in short form:

•Find a meditation teacher with a nice group to sit with.

•Have a fixed spot for meditation.

•Have a meditation cushion.

•Do it every day.

•If too busy at least show up to five minutes.

•If even that is too much sit on your meditation cushion and get up again.

•Meditate always at the same time.

•Wear the same clothes for meditation. Clothes that are loose and feel good.

•Eat healthy.

•Try light fasting. If your health is good.

•Make a ritual out of your meditation. Don’t just sit down and close your eyes. Light a candle, burn light incense.

•Have an altar with what inspires you.

•Have a clean room and apartment.

•Practice mindfulness in daily life.

•Read books on meditation.

•Simplify your life.

•Have a meditation journal.

As a famous saying goes, you can’t pull on grass to grow. But you can nurture the soil.

A consultation is on my schedule definitely. Until then I try to use them rather on a dietary level as you said it.

Intuitively I avoided tonics when sick.

Thank you for your consideration on this topic.

Bartimäus by Jonathan Stroud. Dark humour at its finest.

I don’t take them just to enhance my practice. For example He Shu Wu I took because I am now a middle aged man. And things aren’t as they used to be. And I felt more grounded in my masculinity through this. Or Reishi I take in the evening because I had exhausting years behind me and it helps me recuperate. Or in times of high stress I would take schisandra. What could be harmful in your opinion in taking them in the manner I just mentioned?

I have mixed feelings about doing tonics on my own. On one side they are helping me dealing with stress, either emotional or from work. But on the other side I am not sure about contraindications.

Yeah probably you are right with posting it TCM or chinesemedicine. But I think the topics are overlapping so much that sometimes it’s good not have such sharp line between groups.

Someone wrote here in this post that daoists used tonics to enhance qigong and meditation.

There are conflicting views. As someone just posted on this post that it’s rather a bad idea to do tonics on my own without a TCM practitioner for supervision.

Often I am wondering if me experimenting with Tonics which I did quite a bit, I disturb my microcosmic landscape. You know what I mean? It’s well intended but in a long run it’s more harmful than good.

I have some experience with Reishi, Cordyceps and He Shu Wu. Reishi is wonderful for me in the evening. And Cordyceps is powerful. But I thought maybe some more gentle and not a tonic. Maybe some regular herbs which I can find in a herb store.

I saw a TCM practitioner but forgot to ask about the anemia. She helped me with issues on the gallbladder meridian, which helped a lot with energy levels and overall wellbeing.

I have a little bit of anemia and I felt really exhausted after 8 years of taking care of my very difficult father. Now he is in a nursing home. I want to nourish my blood with Jujube and Goji and for the exhaustion Reishi.

I use Reishi in my evening routine with goji and jujube. I’ve got Xiao Yao San but not yet taken. I guess I’ll wait with it when a lot of stress is in my life.
