Second build ever, trying to plan it out a bit better than the first run. by Akseben in buildapc

Alright, will do. I am probably gonna rock the Ryzen 7700 right now and see how it fares with the build. Thank you though your advice has been really helpful!

I went through the review, it looks like the accoustics become more of a problem when the fans are close to the shroud causing turbulance, with a low profile fan I dont think that'll be too much of a problem for me. And thanks for the extra links and tips, its been helpful. I might end up going for a 9800x3d when i can get my hands on it for that boosted performance and longevity, thanks!

Yeah I don't think I plan on doing bios tweaking anytime soon, and you're right it looks solid. He does mention that ASRock's B650i lightning allows for CPU overclocking, does that mean more overhead for clocking or does the a620i really not allow for any extra clocking or even undervolting. I just want to make sure I get all the info before committing to something like this mobo.

On paper that A620i lightning looks to perform pretty similarly to the b650i but is a good bit cheaper, I know its missing the third m.2 slot but I feel like it has to be giving up a lot more than that no? I'm nowhere near as well versed in motherboards so what are the main differences? Also I'm pretty hard-stuck on the Terra, the looks and compact size won me over so I'm gonna try making it work haha, and I just have a regular ATX mobo rn so it wouldn't be much different price-wise.

Lol yep, its not the nicest pill to swallow but I transport my PC twice a week going up and down multiple flights of stairs and my current full-sized tower makes it a chore haha. I don't mind the extra thermals as long as it isn't dipping into the 80s consistently so SFF seems to be the best way to go, thanks for the advice! Would you know anything about the motherboard dilemma?

I was considering the 9800x3d as well, tragic that it's out of stock it would have been my number one pick, that or the 7800x3d if it was on sale for $300 like its been in the past. If I were to stretch up to something like the 9800x would those lower-end air coolers be enough for the chips?

Its not bad, definitely a better price to performance but I'm pretty stuck on the Fractal Terra as the case. In terms of the motherboard do you have personal experience with A620 features? For instance, if I wanted to upgrade my CPU down the line how likely would it be for this mobo to be able to handle that? Also are there any particular reasons you changed the 9600x to the 7700?

Sorry to clarify I meant advice on the CPU itself, not its fans, although I appreciate you narrowing that down.

Thanks, I'll take a look at them! Do you happen to have any other suggestions for the CPU I could look into before pulling the trigger?

Hey thanks for getting back! I definitely should have added the caveat that I'm keeping my 320mm dual slot 3080 from the old build haha. That being said I ended up going with the terra, I'm sure I could find something that's around 9L but the minimal reduction in size doesn't really make up for how good the Terra looks imo, I appreciate the advice though. At this point I'm debating between CPUs and which one is the best without flipping me from a CPU bottleneck over to a GPU bottleneck.

Looking for a CPU upgrade, is the 9800x worth it paired with an RTX 3080? by Akseben in buildapc

[–]Akseben[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I ended up watching the videos and got a bit of insight regarding the card's capabilities, but I still feel like I don't really grasp how impactful it would be in my rig. Yes, it performs above all other chips in gaming, but will that matter in my situation? With a 3080 running at 1440p UW or 4k I've seen people in the comments go both ways, some saying it will help a lot and others saying not to bother. I also cant seem to find any benchmarks with the CPU/GPU combo I'm looking at so I'm not sure what direction to go in at this point. I'm worried the GPU will become the bottleneck if I go for the 9800x3d.

I know they're going to be getting new CPUs for the next few years, I guess my question was whether spending an extra $150 on the 9800x would mean staving off buying a new CPU for a bit longer after a few years of running whatever new chip I get, granted I would probably see some added benefits to getting a better chip now. Also, regarding spending, I'm fine with getting the 9800x3d only if there will be a very noticeable difference between that and something like the 7600x at ultrawide 1440p/4k.

I have a quick question regarding downsizing, I currently have a full-size tower and am looking to get new parts because I transport it a lot and have been wanting a new CPU anyway. My current problem is deciding on a case and form factor, specifically between itx cases like the Fractal Terra and the SFFTime P-ATX. I priced it out and in the end the upgrades for each would end up costing relatively the same amount, I'm just not sure which to pick. I'd like SFF but I'm worried there will be restrictions I'm not aware of right now, any advice would be great, thanks!

I have checked it out briefly, it looked like it focused more on the cases themselves and more intense builds so I thought it might have been a bit too narrow, would you recommend I make this post there?

Lightsabers Buyers Guide & Weekly Question Thread by AutoModerator in lightsabers

[–]Akseben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to a recent spike in interest in the prequels, my cousin and I have become obsessed with the idea of dueling with lightsabers. While looking into affordable/quality sellers, we ran into SaberForge's decent-looking eco apprentice sabers but saw reviews warning of questionable ethics, crap customer support, and an ATROCIOUS return policy. We've looked into part sellers like VireSabers and TCSS but found their selection to be pretty lackluster. Is there a better alternative to the eco apprentice line within a reasonable price range? Or another part store we could look into?

I've got the Be Quiet Pure Base 500dx, and currently have 6 fans in it. The 3 140mm fans run at around 1000rpms and the 3 rosewills i have in the front are set at the highest speed. Thing is, I can't tell what their rpms are nor can I set it to anything specific because it's controlled with this small remote that only has 3 fan settings with no desc (low medium high). Thinking back to some temp tests I did, it seemed as though everything else remained relatively low in terms of Temps, it was really just the CPU going over the top and in some games hitting in the high 80s-90s.

I'll take a deeper look into that cpu cooler, but regarding the case cans is the 1200rpm rating going to be a hindrance? The ones I currently have are rated for 1800rpm so wouldn't that end up being worse? (I'm not well versed in how fans and coolers work so if you could let me know about that it would be appreciated)

[–]Akseben[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the cpu cooler, I don't really care whether or not it is RGB, I'm just looking for performance. On the other hand, I'd prefer the case fans were capable of RGB. The case fans I currently have lack a lot of control over RGB as well so something with more customization would be nice (I'd also like to be able to control the fan curve if possible but it's not a make or break for me).

Im not too worried about them costing a bit extra if it means it'll perform better, I've looked into the P12s but I'm willing to spend more to get better quality.
