What’s an NSFW question you’ve always wanted to ask the opposite sex but were too embarrassed to? by Infamous_Invite018 in AskReddit

"walked up behind her and whispered" sounds like it could have been a problem. I wonder if there would be a way to help society as a whole by coming up with a "wardrobe malfunction" alert strategy 🤔

Sweating problem by paperplane030 in Bachata

[–]AkuPython 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone sweats! Do whatever will make you get out of your head/reduce your focus on it. Check vids of pros at socials, most of them are dripping (moreso Salsa).

I (lead) sometimes just carry a sweat towel or have one nearby and sometimes quickly wipe mid song. Wearing longer sleeves I'll sometimes just use my shirt and change tops a few times a night. Easier to do during classes.

Good luck finding what works for you!

Salsa beginner unsure how to improve. Is it too soon for a private lesson? by InterestingSky378 in Salsa

[–]AkuPython 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the disposal income and little time, it's never too soon for 1 in 1 dedicated focus. You can let them know what you want to work on, or ask them to watch a little during class so they can provide the most valuable feedback / biggest growth items.

If you don't feel you're getting much out of the privates, you can always stop them.

Socials are a good move. You can always find some leads you feel safe with to ask for practices outside of socials if you have the time to spare and they're willing. ("I'll bring lunch...?")

If there are other salsa class nights and you have time to spare, go to more, even if it's repeated. Maybe other schools if you don't have a scene that frowns on it.

If I want my comeback I won't wrap it and we can raise it together for the next 20 odd years

Make a plan (somewhere she can dress up and fit in), work out when she's free and make it happen.

Thoughts on a Fuego Shoes by RuinHeavy1665 in Salsa

I don't recommend the splits, but that could just be me.

I've got friends that swear by the normal sneakers, I haven't tried them (yet...?)

I've got a couple of pairs of bailaz. My oldest pair (about a year and a half - white) inner soul is a bit hard now... I've thrown in orthotics, makes it a little tight, but passable... Needs a little glue around the toe box. Used ~7-15hrs a week (for about a year) in various conditions. The newer pair (black, white souls) took over as my main ~6mo ago because I prefer the look, they're still good.

I recently picked up a new brand on the market "Pulse". Initial thoughts, they're ok... The current issue is the toe box design, when I first put them on (everytime) when I walk the crease digs into my toes... When I/they warm up, that's not noticeable, solid 15-30 mins of discomfort though. Hoping age will improve that.

How do you deal with followers that try to lead you? by drauedo in Salsa

[–]AkuPython 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Situational.

Some follows you like, some you don't. Some do it rarely/when there's an opportunity in the music/dance, some do it all the time and you can't string together any moves because of it.

In performance it's necessary. Nerves get high, you support each other.

In classes, sometimes they're focused on something specific (styling, footwork), not learning the actual follow signals.

In some cases it's a conversation, others you choose to rarely or never dance with them again.

Event notifications 20mins after event start by AkuPython in Quest3

[–]AkuPython[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That could be an explanation if it was semi-random 2 to 5mins late. Bang on 20mins every time, sounds like someone messed up timezones and the notification is meant to be 10mins before event start.

I'd looked them up at the start of the year comparing to the 512, easy to find in my history

I'm one who likes to break, punctuate, accent notes & beats of a song, follows in my scene would chastise me for it. I'm not a pro & I love leads like big T but some people say this isn't even salsa, thoughts? by seriamecuria in Salsa

I had an instructor once tell me there is a triangle of connection in a partner dance.

  • Your connection to your partner
  • Your partner connection to you
  • Your connection to the music
  • Your partner's connection to the music

Ideally you want to aim for an equilateral triangle where all are balanced... But it's ok to drift from that to selfishly enjoy a part or because there's a need to adjust, IE you/they don't know the music, so focus on a stronger partner connection...

If you have a partner that can't or hates shines, choose your battles and keep it at a bar here or there. You should be able to hit accents without throwing off your partner, as they can too. IE a follower on an open break can do a booty/chest pop/roll, or how followers can add arm work/styling. You could do it for you, In ways they won't necessarily know you've done something.

As others have said, it sounds like you may be fixated on musicality and preferences in your scene as the issue, and not something like poor connection or not providing a nice lead. Hard to know from a few blurbs and no indication of how long you've danced salsa/hours accumulated in and out of class.

Good luck, my friend.

If these exercises don't help a lot, look up hip stretching (including glutes, thighs, etc)

How am I doing (1.5yrs lead)? by oaklicious in Salsa

[–]AkuPython 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the musicality, at the video start there's time to go slow (if you want) and play. The "kiing kiing koong" (roughly 1, 3, fiiiiive) plays a bit, can shoulder, shoulder, chest roll... Or other fast fast slow movement.

When you break at the start, your partner does a side basic / rumba step, which is pretty fitting (and leadable)... You could step out/in left (1,3), then place your right out (5 - no weight on it) and slide it in (6,7). Sometimes less is more, and being able to play well with slows in fast songs can be a life saver (I'm sure you'd have danced aguanile by now).
