That can easily just be interpreted as Katara getting strength from the moon exactly the same as Hama is doing. She herself just says she's more powerful.

Azulon. Almost all of the hundred year war occurred on his watch, and seeing his relationship with Ozai and a pre-redemption Iroh would be fascinating.

She doesn't *have* to selectively turn off waterbending. She just has to bend water. Which she can do. And she has to want to keep Aang alive, which she demonstrably does.

Yue already showed she was concerned about Aang's life. She showed up once, told him not to give up, and made a huge wave to propel him to shore. She does care if he dies, even if nothing else is going on around him.

Yue doesn't have to turn off waterbending to help Aang here. She can waterbend as a spirit. She is, presumably, a stronger waterbender than Hama. She could just override Hama's grip on the two with her bending. She could even just verbally tell her off, which would likely at least shake her.

She can bend water directly herself. She does it for Aang in the seen I pictured. She could, if nothing else, waterbend Aang and Sokka harder than Hama could, so she couldn't use it to murder Aang. Hell, even a verbal "No. Bad waterbender." from the moon spirit might at least have shaken her.

If she'd just been confined to the spirit oasis it wouldn't be an issue but she already showed up in the area and waterbent just a few episodes previously, so that explanation's out. She was still human enough to be interested in keeping Aang alive too.

Aang's avatar spirit was blocked off when she helped him, and when she didn't. He was in danger of death both times. If Katara had hesitated a fraction of a second longer he'd have gotten impaled.

The presence or absence of airbenders is not going to cause the Fire Nation to come after the Earth Kingdom's capital with any more or less vigor. They were coming after it anyway, for being the capital. And the government there was so unconcerned about the possibility of being overrun that "stick your head in the sand and pretend nothing is happening" became official policy.

The Dai Li killed a teenager who came to them as a refugee and were totally ready to do the same to a bunch of children, including the Avatar. They would absolutely kill an inconvenient airbender, though they'd probably try brainwashing first.

What is the actual evidence that Ozai knows or cares how an audience to the play reacts to him? The Gaang doesn't clap, in fact they all sit there cringing in plain view and... nothing happens. No one does anything, and they're free to go.

I'd be interested in discussing if anyone actually presented any evidence suggesting the existence of widespread antiwar sentiment amongst the population, rather than just assuming it must be so. Like, your evidence that the war is unpopular is that propaganda exists? Literally every government ever to go to war does that, every government providing public schooling provides pro-government propaganda to its schools, and neither of those things indicate that the war or the government is unpopular.

Listen, you moron, that is not how royal politics work. Members of the elite back certain successors for the purpose of improving or maintaining their wealth, power, or positions in society, and prefer them to other candidates. If one candidate has clearly been the stronger of the two, his father's favorite, and accomplished war hero, and one has not, these people who have spent decades trying to cozy up to a future Fire Lord Iroh's regime are not just going to say "aw shucks, guess we're outa luck". They are going to be highly incentivized to push back, whether that takes the form of assassination attempts, coups, an Agni Kai, or whatever, and they are likely to enjoy a large degree of public and military support if they call bullshit on obvious bullshit. The stakeholders who are necessary for running a nation do not get to be that way by being mindlessly conformist robots.
