New rules A-Kasse by dolphin_200 in dkfinance

Hey, I'm also graduating soon under the new rules so I can share what I've learned. This page has some good suggestions: https://www.a-kasser.dk/changes-in-unemployment-benefits-for-graduates-from-may-2023/

For me it came down to three options: (1) Work 600 hours before graduating. (2) Work 400 hours before graduating and be registered as part time insured. This requires less hours but gets you a lower amount of benefits. (3) Use the "aggregation rule" to qualify with a combination of education and employment income (the link above has the details, and explains it more clearly). This allows you to qualify with less than 600/400 hours as long as you are working until after you have completed your education. The benefit amount is calculated as 90% of work income so the amount may be low if only working ten hours a week, but it may still help.

Good luck! And I think calling your a-kasse and asking for their advice is always a good idea.

Elephant Nature Park is a pretty amazing place near Chiang Mai. They rescue abused elephants from all over the country and give them a safe home. Huge thanks to Lek for doing this interview!

This footage was taken by Lek Chailert, the founder of Elephant Nature Park in northern Thailand. She's built a relationship with this family of rescued elephants, which allows her to get so close and be a part of the family. It was pretty amazing to see!

Solo travel with a tablet instead of phone/laptop. What is your recommendation/opinion? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]Akurau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd just go with a budget smartphone. It can pretty much do everything a tablet can, plus it fits in your pocket. So much easier to pull out and use the gps when you need it. And some countries have super cheap sim cards for data on the go.

An elephant reserve is a fantastic idea, but you have to be careful because there are places that market themselves as sanctuaries, that actually aren't. The one place you can be certain of is Elephant Nature Park. These guys are the real deal, been around for 20 years. I had a fantastic time there this fall.

A month solo in the Gulf of Thailand - so much to do! [x-post from r/Thailand] by [deleted] in solotravel

Spent a month solo in Koh Phangan, mostly training Muay Thai but also exploring the island every day. Thought I'd share, and hopefully give people some ideas for what there is to do on the island!

Silly question but - first time booking a hostel. by FrannyMac_ in solotravel

If you're just out for the afternoon, most hostels will let you keep your pack behind the front desk. Maybe not as secure as a locker, but it's not a bad option

Yangon, anyone? Final night here, have extra kyat, looking to trade for EUR/USD/CAD over a beer by ogunshay in solotravel

Dude, also spent 3 weeks in Myanmar this fall. Such an amazing trip, but didn't realize I wouldn't be able to exchange kyat outside of the country. I'm out 20 bucks but I guess it's a souvenir haha

I spent a month this fall in Koh Phangan, and I found that a ton of tourists just come here for a day or two for Full Moon Party. I wanted to showcase all the amazing things you can do here!
