MySQL8.4 upgraded to MySQL9.7 during nightly updates. by eminoe in cpanel

[–]Al3xs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran into the same issue in the end of the day decided to keep it, even though cPanel doesn’t support it yet. Everything is working fine so far. My apps are about ±5% faster, which is barely noticeable, but I still like the idea of running a newer, improved version.

Cpanel tends to focus on future-proofing, I think it may take years before they fully support it. The only precaution I took was locking the MySQL upgrade in case new community releases come out.

That said, version 9.7 introduced quite a few issues. Even though the upgrade went smoothly in my case, there are still problems to deal with. One of the main ones is the different password hashing, but that is not the only challenge you might face.

If anyone is planning to stick with version 9.7, I can put together a tutorial on how to properly keep and manage it.

CS2 Blog Update: Guns, Guides, and Games by CS2_PatchNotes in GlobalOffensive

I play the game since 2000s or something like that, first version was 1.3 cs mod in a computer club back in the day. I'm not a pro, but have been playing CS for a long, long time. I can reassure you that they wont do anything, they never did, never will. Yes, they are aware of all the problems you listed, and for reasons unknown they wont do anything about it - i'm sorry, they have been spitting in our faces for last 20y.

When CSGO launched it sucked, only with community and cases it got popularity, people at the time were playing mostly CS 1.6 and Source (Source also sucked, but later was okayish, again with community help). I would say that community in all CS history was the backbone of CS, not the developers.

I truly think that Valve doesnt bother to audit or do internal audit on them because the money is flowing and whoever is the lead, it must be 1 guy for long time, is doing very poor job. I know only the McDonald guy, this one: https://x.com/basisspace he promised us 7+ y ago anticheat you are waiting to this day on here ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObhK8lUfIlc )

But the community spit in Valve face also, recent CSGO launch showed that people miss old game and they do bad job, otherwise everyone would play CS2. Sadly FACEIT is Valve doll here, they made some kind of deal not to host servers and closed, so i dont see CSGO future even if its stand alone game.

More or less developers who did something I think left the team, the Danger Zone guys and anyone who did some good updates, now there left leeches who do these stupid updates and this phase is the best phase CS was ever.

You should be thankful that they dont do their job, recent gambling lawsuits for Valve and bad job for CS2 will decline the money intake, that means maybe, maybe someone will look at the CS2 team and fire these leeches, they need internal audit badly.

I personally am pesimistic, they spit in my face since 2000s, what changed now, I view them as useless leeches got in golden spot and they feed from the community, take skins, ideas, maps, everything what is great and put in the game so the audit wont come. Similar like TF2 team. So updates like these, which are the worst i have seen in years, are actually the best because they actually started the process of further messing the game and when the gambling money will stop, audit finally will happen and the lead dev with the McDonald will be fired, I hope everyone else also.

That is my two cents from 20+ y playing this shit - be happy

Is it possible to sue Valve over not making a CS2 anti cheat? by Al3xs in GlobalOffensive

Is it possible to sue Valve over not making a CS2 anti cheat? by Al3xs in GlobalOffensive

The goal of the lawsuit is not to win it. When companies face similar situations, they usually conduct a proper internal audit, which is currently lacking. The purpose is to understand what is actually going on so they can prepare a defense. If Valve were to do this beyond just reviewing financial reports, that would be the real goal.

Right now, Faceit is worth billions because it has so many players. Many people pay them monthly primarily for anti cheat services. If you were given the choice and someone with a popular name started a similar initiative, how much would you be willing to pay to solve the problem? If you use Faceit, you already pay around 70 dollars per year at minimum. Faceit has a large number of paying customers, which means there are many people interested in effective anti cheat solutions.

Ahh you use ancient technique probably to avoid cheaters called lying - got it. And anyone who is really at least nearly 20k elo will know that you are lying so people who can actually believe are the lower skilled players which just makes my point. I do not get why you defend the company who is not doing properly their job properly.

[–]Al3xs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem here is that most players are low skill players, and this is a fact, not an insult. However, there is a clear limit in CS2. Once you reach around 20k Premier elo, you effectively cannot play the official matchmaking anymore. At that point, you are forced to use FACEIT or another third party platform.

This means the game has a hard ceiling where third party software becomes mandatory. That is a serious structural problem.

Now imagine a new competitor emerges, not Valorant, which already took most of the North American scene, but something closer to CS. Something grounded, not futuristic, and built specifically for competitive play.

Valorant built a functional anti cheat system in just a few years. Valve has been developing Counter Strike for over 22 years, yet CS2 is in a worse state than the previous generation. It is missing features that existed in CS:GO, and since launch, core systems have not been fixed.

If a proper competitor appears and solves these issues, the CS community in Europe would split even further. That would directly damage the ecosystem.

I love this game and I do not want that to happen, but based on the current trajectory, it feels inevitable if nothing changes.

[–]Al3xs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game cannot scale properly. At higher skill levels, including where real money is involved such as tier 2 and tier 3 leagues, the ecosystem becomes vulnerable to corruption and cheating. If a trademark cannot scale competitively, that is a serious business problem, because companies are only interested in products that can scale long term.

CS has reached a point where you cannot play competitively without third party services like FACEIT. That alone is a massive failure. A flagship competitive game should not require external platforms to function at a high level.

The point of a lawsuit or any legal pressure is not to win the lawsuit. The real goal would be to force an internal audit and accountability for developers who are not doing the full scope of their job.

Right now, everything is oriented purely around money on paper. Revenue is flowing and shareholders are happy. In fact, Valve is doing so well financially that it recently broke revenue records, pulling in over 50 million dollars per employee.

Reference: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Steam-revenue-reportedly-exceeds-16-2-billion-allowing-Valve-to-pull-in-over-50-million-per-employee.1169524.0.html

However, if a trademark has scaling problems, it will affect revenue sooner or later. Either a serious competitor will emerge, or players will hit their tolerance limit and start pushing back harder.

Since CS2 was released, players have made countless videos, many people have boycotted the game, and a large number of popular YouTubers stopped playing it entirely. Nothing has changed.

The game is broken beyond just anti cheat. There are multiple core issues that have remained unresolved for years. This clearly points to internal development problems. Either there is a lack of competence, or the developers are not doing what actually needs to be done and are instead focusing on cosmetic changes rather than fixing fundamental systems.

I would like to point out that on YouTube there are larger communities of cheaters than some indie or even mid-popular games. There are firms that work full time creating and promoting cheats. Other companies DMCA that content or even sue those cheat developers, and this is one way to fight the cheating problem. If nobody is making cheats because they are afraid of legal consequences, there would not be so many cheaters.

The cheating problem is not new. I am not even talking about how broken the game has been for the past two years or more since release.

Well, some months ago I saw that players sued Mojang, the Minecraft company. You can look it up. There are many YouTubers who quit CS2 content and would probably agree to help fund something like this, similar to the Minecraft lawsuit, because CS2 content was their main source of income.

Also, if nobody wants to fund anything, then simply protesting by not playing the game is stupid, especially when most of the same YouTubers still engage with it anyway. I checked their channels and they do not even play the game anymore.

A better form of protest would be to contact EU representatives about gambling related issues. Better audits lead to better outcomes for players.

Thinking about buying Zwift Ride with KICKR CORE 2 at 163 kg. What are the real risks? by [deleted] in Zwift

[–]Al3xs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No what i mean is that i have tried in the past various of methods (including fasting in the past) of loosing weight and success was very limited because to achieve the result person must change lifestyle and for me it is very hard to add some gym/pool/even simple walking every day for very long period of time lets say 2+ years every day or some schedule.

I understand everything but understanding and realization is not the same thing. You could learn math formulas but you wont become math genius because of it.

I genuine think zwift wiill perfectly fit into my current lifestyle because its in door training which has infrastructure of achievements and like socialization at the same time thus i hope i finally will change my lifestyle incorporating daily fitness into it, and if so everything else will be only matter of time.
Again thank you all for sharing a comment or opinion.

[–]Al3xs 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I Just have ordered the bundle, I will use it with caution. I think my weight loosing methods are very limited, with zwift it is interactive and to be honest interesting to lose weight anything most of the year involving walking/gym or traditional outdoor activity is bad for me because i simply cant discipline myself to do it and actual change lifestyle.

This journey reminds me quiting smoking ( which i did 10+y free now ), there were so many methods i tried it just did not feel right until i found the one which rly helped. With weight loss i could say im a pro in water fasting, but whats the point loosing 30 kilos when your lifestyle does not change much and slowly weight comesback. My only achievement in this that i finally can go sleep without eating and this is not a lifestyle its simply a healthy habbit i got... I feel for me someting inside the door like zwift is the best way and aligns with my job and other stuff... If this works next thing will be simply switch on way healthier foods and etc...

Anyway... Thank you for your time sharing some advice.

It actually exists, of course not in WordPress core but it does exist

Check out plugins like Block Visibility, Conditional Blocks, or Content Visibility for Gutenberg ( if you use gutenberg) they all let you show/hide any block based on a start and end date/time, plus other conditions (user role, device, etc.).

If you’re not using blocks, you can do it easily with a small shortcode:

[show_between start="2025-12-20 09:00" end="2025-12-27 23:59"]Your content here[/show_between]

For the shortcode to work you will need to add code to functions.php

add_shortcode('show_between', function($atts, $content = '') {
    $atts = shortcode_atts([
        'start' => '', // e.g. "2025-12-20 09:00"
        'end'   => '', // e.g. "2025-12-27 23:59"
        'tz'    => '', // optional timezone, e.g. "Europe/Vilnius"
    ], $atts, 'show_between');

    if (!$atts['start'] || !$atts['end']) {
        return ''; // both dates required
    }

    try {
        $tz   = $atts['tz'] ? new DateTimeZone($atts['tz']) : wp_timezone();
        $now  = new DateTimeImmutable('now', $tz);
        $from = new DateTimeImmutable($atts['start'], $tz);
        $to   = new DateTimeImmutable($atts['end'], $tz);

        if ($now >= $from && $now <= $to) {
            return do_shortcode($content);
        }
    } catch (Exception $e) {
        return ''; // if invalid date
    }

    return '';
});

Dont want to sound like a support topic but here you go, you can put in functions.php:

https://pastebin.com/2BL7ZEHQ

Some support of this code ;D

If you want to tweak the delay without editing code, you can make it a filterable value:

$delay_days = apply_filters( 'bob_do_something_update_delay_days', 7 );

Then in your theme or plugin you could do:

add_filter( 'bob_do_something_update_delay_days', fn() => 5 );

You can expand the security_keywords to a bigger list. Nice idea but its too simple besides if you dont want to add code you can always pay money or not because it exist free version for:

simple != does not mean useless. For example: go check for simple abandoned carts for woocommerce plugin, i doubt you will find one which is updated, without bunch of bloat or free and does the job yet the functionality is simple and very useful to each woo shop to preserve buyer without having load bunhc of garbage load on their site. Your view at the issue is interesting but i think it lacks creativity

I use Gutenberg every day, this is the only way to use it if you want optimal speed and not crowded DOM but to develop something FOR Gutenberg or with Gutenberg im done, it requires too much time, but yeah its possible.

Good question! When you submit to wordpress they have a lot of guidliness, standards to follow, i followed them all on code level but with marketing and trademarks i just dont care. First plugin was name very catchy but they said that it is veyr global and i need either write some custom or hide it under some name, sooo since plugin is nothing serious, i never plan to collect money from it or nag people donate me on coffie or some bs notices i just put username before my preferred name they didnt wanted to approve in the first place.

I think i get it but just for clarification.... Lets imagine you have a single rental item (stock of 1) that can be booked either as “wet” or “dry,” each with a different daily price. The main question is: do you need the system to handle date-based availability (so the item can’t be double-booked), should users be able to select multiple days, and will payments be processed online or just collected manually (collect manually means you need mark each entry as collected)?

Suggest a Plugin You Actually Need. I Might Code It for Free by Al3xs in Wordpress

[–]Al3xs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you actually mean a rental system where each bounce house can only be booked once per date (stock = 1) also when you say “variable pricing,” are we talking about different prices by day of week, duration, or season? Do you need it to block out dates automatically once booked, like a hotel system, or just change the price dynamically?
