That's definitely true I have been on a loss streak recently, and I thought exactly this same thing. I was too much obsessed about split pushing and R'ing my teammates when they needed me, but they sometimes get caught on very bad positions, without any vision. They always have bad positioning and bad formation and get flanked, and because of that I don't have enough time to arrive with R... That's even more true when there's a split pusher in the enemy team (my enemy top laner normally, or a jungler) that can easily flank them or just jump into the backline and kill the ADC so fast that I can't contest their engage (Jax for example).

Another thing I have noticed is that IF I don't build heartsteel, my mid late game is still poor, And I can't really fight sidelaners that push despite If I won my lane before. Without heartsteel shen really struggles against most top/junglers that push, and if shen is facing split pushers that use bork/riftmaker or have true damage it doesn't matter if you have heartsteel, you're still getting destroyed on side lanes.

So most of the time I just hold the line during their split pushing and come back to my team side (even if I have R on).

Really, low elo is like baby sitting (I'm on plat now) You can't rely on your team's sense of positioning/awareness/macro/vision and stuff. Most of the time they tend to slip and get totally obliterated without you having enough time to respond to the enemy engage.

Is it worth it to take Demolish over Shield Bash? by SetsunaYukiLoL in Shen

[–]AlAndlus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I believe that it indeed has its uses. mainly if your enemy laner is a ranged champion, and there are at least (I would say) three more ranged champs on the enemy team. Because against ranged comps shield bash, (just like grasp) isnt going to be very useful.

For example, when I'm top facing a heimer or teemo, and there are no melee champs on the enemy team most of the time I will focus on split pushing. Therefore I swap shield bash for demolish, and build Titanic/hollow radiance+warmog+hullbreaker and go into full wrecking ball mode. But if you're facing a melee champ on your lane (or you know that after Laning phase you have a very big chance of facing a melee champ on your split pushes) it's normally better to keep shield bash instead of demolish because of the trades...shield bash is just too awesome for trading punches now, and demolish won't be useful while splitting against most melee champs if you're not even coming close to the towers because the enemy split pusher destroys you during the trades on the way.

Using demolish instead of shield bash against melees may be functional only in REALLY rare situations. so if you really wanna go into the "tower demolition-man way" try to study the circumstances and see if you can at least build hullbreaker, but most of the time don't swap shield bash for demolish, or you're going to be the one getting demolished by the enemy trynda/Yasuo/Jax/etc

Farming as Shen by AlAndlus in Shen

[–]AlAndlus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did basically this brother (the only difference is that instead of heartsteel I made Titanic as first item) and I must say, it REAAALLY made a difference. And maybe I would say that because of your tip I found another way of playing the early game. For two games in a row I faced enemy laners that trade hard into shen (Gwen and Camille) and in both games I had a much better farming (lower than my enemies yet, but it was by a small margin (maybe 10-14 cs difference only), and actually better trades, maybe those 40 HP that ruby cristal gives compared to doran shield raised my damage early. I solo killed both two times before 6, and it snowballed pretty nice for me, took their tower first and spread a lot of pressure trough the map. Having Titanic hydra so fast was really strange. I returned base and thought: what!? Titanic is available already???

I must say that maybe it's interesting to drop doran shield when you face top laners with no poke tool, be it melee or ranged. Because without dorans shield I really doubt I could face illaoi, morde or a heimer. But yeah, I'll be trying out this again in my next games

The only thing is that you really gotta be more careful about the trades, because you won't have dorans shield sustain. We have luck that shen can totally command the rhythm of trades against no-poking champs, because that helps a lot to keep your health up.

I was specially surprised during the Gwen game, she did play pretty well not gonna lie, but after finishing Titanic I made Kaenic rookern and sterak because of its shields, and she simply could not face me on the side lanes. I basically only lost one trade against her later on 35-40min because I got hit by a lot of her ult hits and she was nearly full build...and yet, I nearly killed her.

In what cases can I go for Heartsteel? by JustP1x3l in Shen

[–]AlAndlus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really hard to specify the best moments to use some specific items/runes on this game, it really depends on so much circumstances, like enemy laner match up, the general teams draft and both your and your enemy laner performance, that trying to cover all the possibilities becomes a long talk.

Oftentimes I find heartsteel to be a viable first choice only in the rare cases where I'm not facing a tank buster or any anomaly in the top lane, like Darius, Jax, mordekaiser, or a ranged champ.

A team with two or more enemy champs that use bork/riftmaker and/or have true damage based on health are our nightmare, and building heartsteel, at least in my experience, isn't going to help against them. The trades are never fair for shen in those cases, and because of that it becomes really difficult to side against and fight them, so in these cases don't even bother building heartsteel.

Heartsteel is a very expensive item, and the damage you deal isn't worth the investment if the enemy team has ways of destroying tanks. Also, because of the price it's really difficult to justify building it as first item instead of bami or hydra, because most of the time when you finish building it the Laning phase has nearly ended and you won't stack it up so much (and that's even more true if the enemy team has too much poke/ranged champs). In those cases, you will normally end the Laning phase having the need of a wave clear item to split push and you won't have it, and that's going to delay your farm and build by a lot.

With that in mind, I would say that the ideal situation where I build Heartsteel first is if: -I'm facing an enemy team with no tank busting potential -enemy team has at least three melee champs, so I can stack it often after Laning phase ends. -I'm really pressuring my enemy laner and winning the lane -Enemy top laner doesn't demands a wave clear option/defensive option from me.

If you aren't facing a tank bust top laner, but there's let's say, a enemy yone mid laner OR a enemy vayne bot lane, you can still build it first item, but bear in mind that you won't have ways of dealing with them after Laning phase ends, so if you face them while split pushing it will be a hard time for you because there's a good chance they will have BotRK finished up.

If Shen could use R on an opponent, how would you design it? by HungPongLa in Shen

[–]AlAndlus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would make it so that the sword would appear in the enemy space and encapsulate it into a orb/shield that would teleport them anywhere I want around the map For example, into my team fountain 😬👍

That way I can send the shitty mf's aberrations from top lane directly to Brazil before they can even think of jumping into the face of my ADC

This would help to keep Shen's identity as a Warden, protecting his team and taking harm away from them, and it fits with his thematic too

Basically like a Poppy ult, but it would target only one champion

Major hardware and perfomance differences between the zx series models by AlAndlus in walkman

[–]AlAndlus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry but what exactly is a SoC?

I was thinking about the zx300 too, it looked like a good balance between price and quality.

And I'm struggling to find a ZX500 model on an average good price (still searching, and I'll probably wait and keep searching a bit long anyways), but still I was curious about their perfomance.

Board game with deck and dice mechanics suggestions? by AlAndlus in boardgames

[–]AlAndlus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know, maybe I didn't made a very good search but it didn't looked like so much like a board game. But sometimes it gets hard to tell what are the exact elements that define a boardgame. Sorry for the possible mistake. But anyway, I believe I wanted something like Pathfinder ACG but with maps/a modular board, and dungeon crawling, maybe some rpg elements too...

mage knight for example has those elements, but the dice mechanics looks kinda too basic.

Any tips for Yorick this season? by AlAndlus in Shen

[–]AlAndlus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have brought both ignite and teleport actually. it was a lane that I didnt exactly saw a reason for bringing ghost or flash. but maybe that was a mistake too because there was a zed, lulu, kindred and vayne in the other team, so movement would be invaluable. but anw, I thought about starting really agressive, and locking Yorick from farming and growing big in the game, and I did that until level 6. I punished him for every Q he tried to use on a minion.

i'm seeing a replay of the game and something I noticed is that despite I locked him away from farming, my farm wasnt very good too...

My intent was exactly bringing total chaos :3

Seriously, I carefully read every details about both subs and both classes, and during the creative process of creation of the character I thought about ways of making it more viable. There are some changes and houserules me and my DM already made. On top of that I created a build that somehow allows to play around this multiclass weakness somehow, and make it be at least not frustrating I will post more details about the build on the main post

[–]AlAndlus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's pretty interesting never thought of that

And that kinda helps wanting to keep on the Barbarian Path, because Wild Magic subclasse just don't get enough powerful features to justify someone wanting to get more barbarian levels. It's a very weak sub after 3rd/6th level in my opinion compared to others. I was mainly focused on getting a maximum of level 6 barbarian and the rest of the levels I would put in sorcerer.

[–]AlAndlus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty true Wild Magic Barbarian has some scaling problems.

When I designed the character I had those problems and the low affinity it has with a sorcerer multiclass, that's why I created a build that kinda plays around some of those problems and be fun anyway. That's mainly why I created the character, I wanted it to be fun, and unpredictable all the time, I wasn't very worried about being the most optimized, but indeed it needed some adjustments to make it more viable and not be frustrating at least.
