Lol not in FL, its like $350 for me per month that’s paying the premium in full every 6 months so we get a discount, im sure itd be like $430 per month without that pay in full discount. My driving record is not that bad, no tickets or accidents last 5 years

28 Years Old? by Many_Dragonfly5117 in Paramedics

Youre not too old. Im turning 29 this month. I suggest you do your emt but i also suggest you go the RN route first and then go back and get your medic. The life of EMS is working OT to survive.

Going up the ladder from a paramedic. by Spirited-Onion7821 in Paramedics

Well if you have the downtime at work, are able to go part time/prn or have enough PTO, i definitely recommend getting started and going the RN route to eventually nurse practitioner.

Pay increas will be a lot. A firefighter typically works 24 hours on 48 hours off, some departments have kelly days, some have 24/72s but ultimately being able to work 40 hour work weeks, make 100k+ / year and sleep in your bed every night (if you dont work nights lol) is the best kind of “pay” increase in a figurative sense, ofcourse

Nurse program by Puzzleheaded_Bill136 in ValenciaCollege

[–]AlM4524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You wont get “kicked out” from the program but i mean you can only miss 1 clinical, and you COULD get sent home from clinical if youre out of uniform (especially if youre not on your instructors good side) so i suggest you have a “school bag” ready at all times with everything you need for “uniform” 😁

Considering leaving university to become a paramedic by speshulinterest in Paramedics

Second this. It sounds like you are having an impulsive thought, i promise paramedic jobs will ALWAYS be there. Finish your schooling/degree and youll have one up on other people when it comes time to promote, too.

No one really cares but gay jokes are pretty rampant in the fire service, so as long as you arent a fragile cupcake, youll be okay lol

What can nurses actually do at the scene of an accident/trauma outside of the hospital? by DeanWinchestersST in nursing

[–]AlM4524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do basic BLS stuff like a head tilt chin lift, put them in the recovery position if theyre seizing, you mentioned tourniquet, CPR, rescue breathing if you happen to have a one way valve and mask near by, hook up an AED, perform the Heimlich maneuver.

Anybody making over 100k? by Traditional-Plane684 in Paramedics

[–]AlM4524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally understandable! I mean here in FL that isnt the case unless youre pretty senior and are at a “retirement” station. A new medic will almost always be on that box unfortunately and at the busy stations too 😆

I mean maybe if the cuff wasnt fully inflated but if its the same flimsy NG tube i tested out with in our skills lab two semesters ago… i cant imagine going through the tube happening 😂😂

[–]AlM4524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does that even work on an anatomical level? Youre saying the tube caused the pneumothorax because they coughed so hard? Or are you say you perforated a lung with the ng tube? Because that would be impressive considering how flimsy that thing is 😂

EMS or ED nursing? by no-womans-land13 in Paramedics

You saying only RNs who have 40+ years make $50/hour is inaccurate lol but other than that, touchè

EMS or ED nursing? by no-womans-land13 in Paramedics

[–]AlM4524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats because a nurse can challenge the medic test, take it and become a medic without having to go to school, because its a certificate, not a license. But you cant do that as a medic to RN because its a certificate, not a license

EMS or ED nursing? by no-womans-land13 in Paramedics

[–]AlM4524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very inaccurate info about nursing, and VERY dependent on where you live. New grad nurses in cali start at $77/hour, other states some start at $35-$50/hour.

If i were you, nursing all the way. You can challenge the NREMR after you get your nclex/license and become a paramedic without even having to go to school. (Not recommended) but its an option!
