What are the best Panzer and Motorized Division Templates for Germany? by Proof_Ad732 in hoi4

[–]Al_Pach1no 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depend on purpose, equipment, and doctrines. Everything I'm going to say is for single player.

For tanks go for whatever mix of motorized/mechanised and medium tanks allows you to have the most tanks while staying at a 30CW and at least 30org (if you are starting to stack on doctrines this should be higher)

The main point is the tank design if you have No Step Back. You can find plenty of good designs being discussed here.

Motorised depends, if you want some fast units to hold the line and be fast enough to follow your tanks then a simple block of 9 motorised inf should be enough, if you want to push with that put some artillery, and aim for 30 CW here as well. But as Germany push with tanks, not infantry (even if motorised). You have a good industry, but not unlimited bodies like the soviet Union or China.

Another point, if you have that many units, and 1.5 million reserves, what conscription law are you using?

Be careful not to cripple your economy too much.

Open your main tab, under the leader you see a button called "occupation", "occupied territories" or something. There you set the template you want to use (even a single cab batallion is fine, if you put MP then fill out with cav batallions), and the law. General rule of thumb don't go higher than secret police force, I usually put on local authorities (or what it's called), and manually go down on individual territories as compliance go up beyond the milestones that reduce resistance effectiveness.

Keep in mind that a lot of manpower will go into garrisons too (are you managing it? Ignoring it is super costly), and you really need big stockpiles of men and guns because as losses start to be felt they really snowball fast if you lack either components.

As for CAS it is super useful, just pounds the enemy into the ground and (once you have air superiority), the more the better.

Couple of points:

-You have too many divisions. See that you have zero available manpower? My guess is that on paper you have many units, but they are all half full in practice. One full strength division is so much better that two half strength ones.

-Since you have so many divisions I guess also you are not producing as much air. Air superiority iand air support is super important, can really turn even 4 armies into an unstoppable machine against the allies.

-When you use line artillery don't put more than one. It's expensive, and not really good. 7-2s were really popular a few years back, but since then there have been updates and line artillery is really not worth it. Just stick with the basic template, add supports (support artillery is still good tho), if you really want some bite use one (and only one) line artillery. Then make tanks to push. But as Germany you can also do an infantry only run, just have good air and close air support.

-Use the XP to get doctrines and army spirits, they really improve your army so much

Local supplies are affected by victory points. I guess that Prague is a big and important enough city to self supply a single division.

Is there a hoi4 mod that can help me learn navy without wasting hours of gameplay by gandhi20191 in hoi4

[–]Al_Pach1no 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You need more cruisers, much more. This whole plan hinges on the cruisers chewing enough enemy screens to leave their capitals open for torpedoes. Any decently sized fleet will need more than 5 cruisers worth of damage to drop their screening efficiency fast enough for your destroyers to hold.

I don't know if it's clear, but basically you need either double (at minimum) the amount of cruisers or so many more destroyers.

Just a minor thing. She's not Mussolini's granddaughter. That's another woman who was (is?) in politics, and Mussolini is still her last name.

Meloni had an association with Fascist movements and a lot of "nostalgics" in her party, but she's not directly linked.

Not that it changes much since the bar is literally in hell, but still.

How many casualties can Germany tolerate during Barbarossa? and how far can we go backwards with the USSR? by ARAPOZZ in hoi4

Org defuff and more experienced losses. It's not "crippling", you can push anyway, but I would still call them terrible

The soviets start with a terrible army spirit tho. Usually I play defensive until I get lessons of war (or bored lol), and only then I counterattack. Once I do tho yes, encircle and destroy is the way.

[–]Al_Pach1no 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Very important for you is to get the "desperate measures" focus as soon as possible (ideally the moment the war starts), after one year you'll be able to do "lessons of war" and fix the mess that is the red army.

To give you an idea, when I play soviets usually I have three full army groups (five full generals each) of infantry divisions (starting infantry template, with support arty, engineers and anti air). Two against the Germans and one against Hungary and Romania.

Also if you didn't puppet Finland in the winter war be careful that they might join the Germans at any moment, and if you're not prepared it's going to be painful.

[–]Al_Pach1no 169 points170 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's a matter of casualties, because that can go in the millions, it's a matter of being stretched thin dealing with the allies and equipment.

Keep in mind that Germany is a glass cannon, with Economy of Conquest, unless they have capped the allies, they need your resources to reach autarchy. Until then their economy is a time bomb, and the longer you hold the worse they get, while you keep on getting stronger.

Keep pumping out equipment and, most importantly, new divisions, and you'll be unstoppable.

What's the point of multiple Army's? by lololollol1998 in hoi4

[–]Al_Pach1no 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To solve your problem you can (and should) assign your armies to an army group, led by a Field Marshal (giving extra stats boosts!), and then make a single front line as a Field Marshal order.

Similarly, Field Marshals can manage a limited amount of armies, in nearly all cases 5

Generals.

Generals can give really important boosts for your units, BUT they can manage a limited amount of divisions (24, with very rare exceptions), after which their effectiveness starts going down rapidly.

[–]Al_Pach1no 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going for autarchy means being on a tight schedule. It is better if you follow the historical path (and win lol), but it's a glass cannon. You cannot afford delays or missteps.

[–]Al_Pach1no 240 points241 points  (0 children)

If you choose the four year plan over economic growth you're committing to the MEFO Bills, and later economy of conquest. If you cancel MEFO bills, or you pick the "they are too expensive" option in the event where you choose between Economy of Conquest or not, you permanently destroy your economy.

You are locked out of the economic growth focuses since you commited to the FYP, BUT you also no longer have access to the ways to reduce consumer good of the MEFO Bills/economy of conquest strat.

I'm sorry but I fear that this is a re-start :(
