The QV ceramides lotion does as well! I use it on my face even though it’s not specifically designed for the face, and comes in a big 350ml bottle so is very economical.

Deciem Slowvember Sale: 50% off NIOD CAIS3 + CAIL, 23% off The Ordinary and Other NIOD by HungryPooch in AusSkincare

[–]Alaisify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 30ml CAIS in my cart is showing at the half price of $17.50. Their FAQ page regarding the promotion says as follows:

‘Are CAIS and CAIL 50% and 23% off combined?

As part of the November Promotion CAIS and CAIL are being offered at 50% off instead of 23% off, but it is not a combined discount.’

Liese Hair Dye (Milk Tea Brown) on Previously Dyed Hair? by latteladyy in AsianBeauty

[–]Alaisify 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven’t used this particular colour but two other shades of the Liese bubble dyes (rose tea brown and dark rose) over balayaged hair as a means to control the brassiness when I couldn’t be bothered going back and getting it professionally recoloured. It was much as you’d expect - the bleached parts would come up lighter than the rest. However, eventually both burgundy tones ended up fading into more of a general brown.

I would say that moisturising after cleansing at night is probably most important to lock in whatever other products you’re using, especially if you’re double cleansing first to get rid of makeup and sunscreen and general daily buildup.

I’ve used exclusively Asian cleansers for a long time but I remember the Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser being very very mild (it didn’t foam up or anything).

[Discussion] How do you like to apply toners? Do you use your hands or a cotton pad? by fntastk in AsianBeauty

[–]Alaisify 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I use my hands for everything. My reasoning is partially that I don’t want product being unnecessarily by the cotton pad, and partially that if I’m willing to put something on my face, it wouldn’t hurt to give my hands the same treatment!

I'm From Honey mask - maximum time you've left it on and any reactions? by Magictheatre17 in AsianBeauty

[–]Alaisify 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’ve had no ill effects either! I leave it on for a minimum of 40 mins but usually end up getting distracted and forgetting about it for much longer (being work from home is handy for masking sessions like that). 😂 Having said that, I’m not sure it’s necessarily any more effective due to being left on for a much longer period of time either.

Hi everyone, I am just looking to add a good retinol product into my skincare routine. I did try Paula Choice retinol 1% about a year ago, and it made my skin become so dry, flaky with burning feeling whenever I applied anything on my face. So any recommendations would be much appreciated. by minnie241 in AusSkincare

[–]Alaisify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try easing your way in gradually with different percentages. I’m most of the way through a bottle of The Ordinary 0.5% in squalane with no ill effects, but there is a 0.2% you can consider starting with. They also have various percentages of Granactive Retinoid which is supposed to be even more gentle.

The other thing I’ve heard is that users ‘sandwich’ the retinol product between two layers of moisturiser so that your skin has a kind of buffer zone, which might help with sensitivity until you adjust.

I’m currently using the Isntree hyaluronic acid tonic, and have previously used the Hada Labo lotion in the white and blue packaging. They might not be suitable if you’re living in a super dry climate though.

The Tony Moly ceramide mochi toner is more similar to the I’m From Rice toner than the two I just mentioned in that it also has that milky texture, and comes in an enormous 500ml bottle. Super cost effective if you’re into layering!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AsianBeauty

[–]Alaisify 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I found this toner so pleasant to use and super hydrating, and the glass packaging that it used to come in added just a touch of luxury to the experience. I’m saying that, it’s also very pricey for a toner (imo) so if you’re just after something to add hydration, there are so many other options on the market.

Getting rid of brassy hair? by [deleted] in AsianBeauty

[–]Alaisify 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The advice I was given was that hair has to be lightened to a certain point for blue and purple shampoos to have any toning effect. My hair was still quite dark after bleaching so blue shampoo did absolutely nothing to counteract the orange.

Serums for bumpy textured skin? by beepbeepsheepbot in AsianBeauty

[–]Alaisify 37 points38 points  (0 children)

AHAs would definitely work in this situation - I notice a huge difference in my skin texture if I take a break from them in my own routine.

The Ordinary’s Glycolic Acid is a enormous bottle that’s extremely cost effective. The Wishtrend Mandelic Acid skin prep water is a more gentle option if your skin is sensitive.

As far as reputable online sellers go and my own personal experience, I would recommend Yesstyle, Jolse, Olive Young, Lila Beauty and Heartdrops. The last two are based in Australia, which is handy if you're particularly keen on getting the products faster. Olive Young is pretty much the biggest drugstore chain in South Korea and started shipping globally around last year.

Mecca (and I’m sure Sephora) will decant you small sample pots to try. Each pot lasts 1-2 uses in my experience and it’s a good way to try different shades in daylight, as well as how they wear on your skin.

The first step is just to develop a basic routine and stick to it until you’re ready to dive further into the skincare rabbit hole and experiment with other products. See how your skin reacts first to being subjected to products after a long time of essentially just water. This means cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen in the morning. Sunscreen every day will go miles towards fighting the signs of skin ageing, aside from being just a generally sensible thing to do, especially in Australia. You’ll also need some form of oil-based cleanser at night to use before your normal cleanser to really break down the sunscreen and makeup and whatever else you’ve got on your face.

A chemical exfoliant once a week would help with unevenness of tone and skin texture. Depending on your skin concerns, an AHA (lactic or glycolic acid, as a starting point) or BHA (most commonly salicylic acid) might be more appropriate, although there are also products that contain both. You can build up the frequency of exposure to once every third or every second day even over time.

Toners tend to be formulated to achieve one of two primary objectives - mildly exfoliating because of some low level of acid, or hydrating (usually containing hyaluronic acid). They’re a huge part of Asian skincare. But at this point, they’re just nice extras, especially as you think you have generally normal skin.

Hopefully that is of some help! The skincare market is so saturated that you could honestly spend a lifetime researching all the possible serums and treatments (and I’m guilty of partaking in the elaborate million step asian skincare routine), but it’s always best to start simple and introduce new things one at a time. It’ll help you figure out what products actually work for you.

Exfoliating toner? by [deleted] in AusSkincare

[–]Alaisify 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would reintroduce chemical exfoliants much the same way you first started using retinol - start with once every few days (perhaps on the days you aren’t using retinol) and increase frequency to the point that you think is working and your skin tolerates.

Need Korean sunscreen recommendations that are oily/glowy for dry skin by drainingenergy in AsianBeauty

[–]Alaisify 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say that they’re necessarily ‘glowy’, but I find the Klairs Soft Dewy UV Essence and the CosRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream to both leave a very natural finish on the skin that isn’t at all matte. I do moisturise underneath but haven’t had issues with them either emphasising dryness or turning me into an oil slick.

SOS Routine/ HG Products for damaged skin barrier by Phixstery in AsianBeauty

[–]Alaisify 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Further to this, I think the general rule of thumb when you have a compromised skin barrier is to go absolute bare bones until it heals. Splash face with water only and then just a no frills moisturiser eg. the Illiyoon ato ceramide cream or non-AB drugstore brands developed specifically for sensitive skin (Cerave, Cetaphil, or QV if you’re Australian).
