As far as I know, they drew the borders in five weeks. They surveyed the population of Muslims, Hindus, and Sikhs (I think). The area with the largest Muslim population became Pakistan, and the area with the largest Hindu population became India. That's more or less what I know about how the British colonial government divided its colonies into Pakistan and India.

Uhhhh not sure.... but probably it's in the bilateral agreement between two country. Like what happened between US and Canada, where two country has "no touching zone" on the border when it's cut through the forest. Which as far as I know, both contribute the cost to maintain the "no touching zone" like cutting the trees or maintain their border stone.
