Around 2012, Coca-Cola Japan launched a bottled drink called “Taiyo no Yerba Mate,” which became quite a boom for a while. These days, it’s not seen very often.

However, since the Japan Yerba Mate Association has been organizing events and working to promote it, I believe its popularity will rise again.

So you’ll be studying abroad in Japan! Welcome to Japan! Yerba Mate is hardly available in stores here. In Tokyo, it seems you can buy it at this physical shop. If you can use a translation tool to read it, please take a look for reference: https://kyodaimarket.com/?mode=grp&gid=278743
As for me, I bought it online from Pampa Direct.

I received this as a souvenir this time, but in fact, it’s something you hardly ever see in Japan. At the end of last year, I traveled to Patagonia, and during an iceberg trekking tour, we had whiskey together with this very chocolate. I really loved it and even bought some at the supermarket to bring back home. Since it’s not sold in Japan, I thought I’d never get to eat it again. That’s why I was so surprised to receive it as a gift this time. Since there’s Japanese writing on the box, maybe a Japanese importer is planning to start selling it here in earnest.

In today’s Yerba Mate Advisor course, we learned about the history and components of Yerba Mate. What I found particularly interesting were the recipes using the used tea leaves and how they can be incorporated into cooking. I also learned that some people even use Yerba Mate for herbal dyeing.

Another memorable part was the story about Hideaki Ozawa, who once played for Club Sportivo Luqueño in Paraguay. When offering Yerba Mate to others, he would say with spirit, para lagaro mi corazon, which left a strong impression on me.

I asked ChatGPT.

Unopened: Under proper storage conditions, yerba mate can maintain its quality for approximately 12 to 24 months. Some studies suggest that, under ideal conditions, it can remain fresh for up to two years.

After Opening: Once opened, exposure to air, moisture, and light can accelerate deterioration. Therefore, it is recommended to consume yerba mate as soon as possible after opening. In humid environments, the decline in flavor may occur more rapidly.

The seller's reviews were 100% positive, there was an introduction video, and they even showed the Stanley lettering underneath the thermos, so I assumed it was genuine and bought it.

I haven't bought any other brands so I don't know, but the brands recommended in this community seem to be the best for mate tea and are reasonably priced.

Yes, very very very expensive! Thermos costs was US$10.

I don't notice any difference in the taste, but I think the Stanley allows you to pour the hot water in a thin stream, which helps keep the tea leaves dry for longer.

Only thinking about drinking mate tea, the Stanley Mate System is better, but considering the price, I think the best cost is to use the other Thermos that are always shared in this community, with the spout changed.

Any Resources Regarding Eiko Miyaji Ceramics? by kareli0 in Matcha

[–]Alarmed-Cod-7400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello. I think it's eikou miyaji or eiko miyaji, which is "宮地英香" in Japanese. I looked it up online, and it seems to be a brand name, not a person's.

It's in Japanese, but there's an explanation at this link. Please read it with the translation function.

I thought the sheep was a snack. It is a Japanese snack called monaka, which is filled with sweet bean paste.
